Satan wants five conferences to play each other without playing those coveted late Sun Belt games.

from that article:

?For the guys who whine about their fixed rivalries, we have games until 2017 with opening games, so we?re going to play somebody else,? Saban said. ?I mean, strength of schedule is important, but also, how about the fans? Don?t they want to see good games and all that??

wow. just wow.

a University of Alabama employee making that statement is freaking hilarious.

Bama vs Tennessee is one of the main reasons the SEC even had fixed rivalry games with teams from opposite division.

going into 1992 (when conf split into divisions), Bama demanded to keep playing the Vols. every single year.
Of course they were in the midst of a 19-4 run against them. i'd want to play them every year too.

and strength of schedule?
ho. lee. shit!

Bama plays 1AA Georgia St (who went an impressive 1-10 last year) AND 1AA Chattanooga this coming season.

this on top of drawing Kentucky and Tennessee from the East. two teams that combined to win 1 conference game last year (only because they played each other).

I had no idea this was true or allowed.

It's got to be some sort of un-record. Not only do they play two FCS teams, they are the reigning national champs and play 2 FCS teams in the same season.

allowed but can only count one in bowl eligibility if they actually somehow are a 7 win team with that 1AA win(s).

Easy for Saban to say he wants all five conferences to play each other because he knows it would never happen. So, they keep scheduling two division 2 teams a year and often at the end of the year or middle when a loss against a better team is more costly.

And only 3 of the teams they play finished with more than 8 wins last season.

yes it is.

I don't bitch much about the permanent cross division opponent, because I really like playing Florida every year, and don't want to to lose that rivalry.

but i find it amusing that the SEC used 2012 and 2013 as "bridge years" that were "not reflective of past or future conference scheduling" until a permanent slate was released beginning with 2014 season.

Bama's east opponents those 2 seasons:
Tennessee (twice), Mizzou, and Kentucky.

none of whom were even bowl eligible, two were so bad they fired their coaches. those three teams went a combined 3-21 in conference last season.

who did LSU draw from the East for those 2 seasons?
Florida (twice), South Carolina, and Georgia

all three teams won 11+ games last year. those three teams went a combined 20-4 in conference last year.

but Bama fans bitch that LSU typically schedules their bye week the week before Bama.
