NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

Definitely a class act and one of the good guys. You wonder if San Diego regrets trading him.....
Chargers didn’t trade him. They drafted Rivers, and gave Brees a franchise tag a year after his shoulder injury. He was offered a 5 year $50 million contract by the Chargers that included ONLY $2 mil in the first year of the new contract, and everything else in performance incentives (more of San Diego/LAC’s shiesty bullshit that they’ve tried to pull on every one of their star players). He took a much more reasonable contract from the Saints, and the Chargers haven’t done shit without him.

Drew Brees y’all!!!!!

For some reason or another, Brees never seems to be named among the best quarterbacks in league history—which he unquestionably is. Throughout his career, he has never been truly appreciated. But at least for one night, he was. He’s an 11-time Pro Bowler, Super Bowl MVP, Walter Payton Man of the Year—and now the leading passer in NFL history.

I had it in my head they ditched him after they got Rivers. I recalled it wasn’t amicable. Never been a Rivers fan. The guy is an overrated ass. Thanks for the clarification.

Unless they planned on moving into a dome and hiring Sean Payton, they wouldn't have done anything with him either. Brees gets nowhere near any of his records without those two things.

1) He played more outside because his career long indoor team dumped him.

2) Here are some 2012 stats for Peyton (I don't care enough to find newer ones, though those would include his decline)

Drew vs Peyton Outdoor
251.2 ypg 265.5
64.66 cmp 64.55
90.80 ratn 90.60
1.87 td/int 1.67

Drew vs Peyton Indoor
311.5 ypg 262.5
69.52 cmp 65.50
103.6 ratn 98.90
2.54 td/int 2.37

Drew played better indoors than Peyton and maintained his level of excellence longer than Peyton did, so he got to keep playing on his home turf indoors.

Being able to play two entire more seasons, where his numbers are significantly better over his career, is relevant regardless when we're talking about a volume record.

For comparison, Peyton:

My point isn't that Manning is better, which doesn't really matter to me, it's that Drew Brees is the best example of a product of system and location that you're ever going to find and wouldn't have become the same player had he stayed in San Diego, or probably went anywhere else.
