NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

As a casual NFL (Saints) fan should I be excited?

I know he was amazing in college, so I'd be excited for that type of impact. But I have not followed how he's done in the pros.

He's been injured a lot, and has been pretty underwhelming since his rookie season. He had effort issues in SF, which should have been the perfect situation for him.

I hope he goes out and lives up to his potential, but he doesn't seem to be the same guy. I hope he proves me wrong. He's one of my favorite players in the NFL.

He’s a good player. Good against the run. OK pass rusher. Lost a step due to injuries after his first NFL season so isn’t a dominant pass rusher like we was in college or his first year in Washington.

I love how quickly the media has pivoted on Russ. You'd think he hadn't just been cut by a team that needs a QB and was willing to eat the largest dead cap hit in the history of the league just to get rid of him before his extension even started just to not have a QB.

Yes ESPN, I'm sure he can be elite in Pittsburgh. No doubt! lol

I don’t know about this, man. I understand why they want to remove the hip-drop tackle, but in practice it seems a little more nuanced… at what point does the NFL accept that injuries will occur in such a violent game? Are people getting concussed during this tackle?

If they approve and enforce this rule I might lose interest.

Like roughing the passer, targeting. Okay.

But this?

Can't wait to lose a game to the Saints because a Falcons defender made a tackle on 4th down, thereby turning the ball over. However his tackle was flagged for hip drop, we lose 15 yards and NOLA kicks a game winner

Watch that and then with a straight face say i GuEsS yOu'Re NoT aLlOwEd To TaCkLe NoW

Now can NFL refs actually consistently enforce that? Cause what should be an easy to understand rule of targeting his been a shit show and this is more complex but simpler at the same time. Elements plus body weight on legs
