NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

I highly doubt any of the conspiracy theorist/let them play crowd had any problem with the PI call on Miami on 4th down 20 years ago.

So where's the line when we just let anything go? Or is it only a problem when you don't like the outcome? Pretty sure I can guess. :roll1:

The issue is that they let ticky tack stuff like that go the whole game until the final two minutes, then insert themselves with a flag and decide the outcome of the game. And Bradbury probably said that because he doesn't want to pay goodell $13,000 for speaking his mind.

On the Miami game, there was a photo of Sharpe blatantly pulling Gamble down by the jersey when the ball was in the air. I thought I saved but I searched a while ago and couldn't find it.

The point where there are 65 pass plays in the game up to that point and 0 hold/PI infractions prior. That is unheard of if anyone watches typical NFL games if PIs every other play it seems. I even mentioned how the game flow was good with letting it play.

Good for Bradbury admitting he held. He also said he hoped they would let it slide. Perhaps like they most likely had for 59 minutes.

Crappy ending either way.

Mixed with how they let KC get away with murder against Cincy and it’s already nauseating knowing the Chiefs are the new darlings.

I don’t and didn’t care who won the game, but when you look at all the non-calls throughout the game and see that called at the end of the game, it really makes you go hmmmm. This following on the heels of the officiating at the end of last years SB.

and add that to the one sided nature of the Bengals vs Chiefs game to get to the "It's not fixed but it's certainly influenced" position.

Sports leagues are in it to sell a product. They have made no bones about protecting susperstars or positions. It isn't that big of a leap to think the officials get direction from the league office to enforce certain rules vs others (point of emphasis they call it) or more quietly a "when in doubt, Mahomes is the anointed face of the League ok??? Any fucking questions??" directive.

We've seen it for decades in the NBA. We've watched it work for Brady. We are about to start to see it go full frontal for Mahomes.

Crappy ending aside, I am still a sucker for Xs and Os. And the Chiefs offense always delivers interesting tidbits.
Same orbit return that Bama hit the Bucks with in the Natty. It's very difficult to deal with that type of pre-snap mo and speed.

There in lies the issue. If you're going to call it, call it consistently all game. Yeah, it was a bit of holding and there's no getting around it. But that was flying fine all game, including with the KC db's. You don't play as much man coverage as they do and not get away with some holding here and there.

“Call it all game!”

3 holds before Mahomes got late hit. Trigger warning, sorry Bengals fans.

Hendrickson at bottom. #65 tackles some DT and the LB in middle gets grabbed when Pat goes upfield.

Not saying rigged but there is leeway and influence for certain players/teams. I fully accept and the Chiefs probably knew they could dare the refs to call hold on this last play.

It sucks that Ossai ended up being the goat at the end of that play considering how much he was held seconds earlier.

Regarding the grass. I was kind of curious what the fuck happened here.

Official quote from Oklahoma State:

“While OSU scientists developed and patented Tahoma 31, they had no role in creating or preparing the field for Super Bowl LVII,” the university said in a statement to the News Press. “Tahoma 31 was used for the base layer, but the field also was seeded with a top layer of ryegrass, which has slick leaf surfaces when damp. That and other factors may have contributed to traction issues during play.”

So the grass was probably fine until the NFL decided that they knew more about it than the school that created the strain.

Eric Bieniemy jumping to Washington as OC and the "Assistant Head Coach" title. Will also get play calling duties for the first time (Andy Reid calls plays in KC). I get that it's something of a promotion, but leaving KC for that tire fire of an organization?

he isn't even being looked for HC jobs... I think he had to do this since Reid isn't retiring so he can get some HC looks ... or go home when Reid decides to hang it up.

edit: I agree but they are about to get sold so who knows...but I think he had to get out from under Reid to advance unfortunately.

The NFL Network Documentary, “Who, If Not Us?” with Kyle Brandt about the Ukraine Football League players is just gut wrenching TV. This is Emmy award worthy.
So, I decided to watch/clean up some shows on the DVR. Finally got around to this special from NFL Network and Kyle Brandt

Incredible. Fantistic look at remarkable people in such a devastating time. I don’t know how they have the resolve and outlook they do. Well done, powerful stuff.

Highly recommended.

My TV says Friday 2/24 at 8pm ET on NFL Net is the next airing.
