NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

I’m not a Bengals fan (a Browns fan) and that was a horrifically called game for Cincy…..feel for the players and city. Just an absolute clown show…….the NFL has a really significant credibility issue with officiating. There’s a lot they could do to fix some of it, with technology for example, on spotting the ball. But the subjective aspect of the game (like illegal use of hands, holding, illegal contact, etc)…..it’s just so biased in certain games it stains the entire league. As a neutral fan, I came away thinking the NFL had a desired outcome…..and it was achieved. Takes a lot of fun out of the Super Bowl for me….

Fair. Got a cousin and her family in Overland and one of my good friends is from there (now living in Phoenix so he may go).

Not a knock on the fans. But you called it- everything is forced by the league and media. To the point that it affected the on-field product.

And bias-ly, it negatively affected a cool Ohio team/kid I was rooting for.
If you include Joey B Cincy has 6 Buckeyes so watching them get hosed was like watching OSU lose all over again. fuck off NFL

Not a fan of either team, but I rewatched the officiating disaster that gave KC the re-do on 3rd and 9 with 10:29 remaining. They made these 4 errors on 1 play:

After the pass fell incomplete with 10:29 left, it was 3rd and 9 with the clock stopped. They spotted the ball about a foot behind the down marker, the first mistake.

The sideline ref stopped the play before the ball was hiked in order to re-spot the ball, with the game clock correctly stopped and the play clock having just gone under 10 seconds. After the ball was moved, now a little ahead of the down marker, the crew chief said that the play clock should be reset to 10, and that both the play and game clocks should start on his signal, which was the second mistake, the game clock shouldn‘t start until the snap.

Then the non-play happened starting at about 10:24, and KC was tackled about 4 yards short of the first down. There seemed to be no whistle before the snap, and neither ref on the line of scrimmage nor the the crew chief indicated a stoppage of play, After KC sent out their punt team, the refs got together and decided that play never happened. They then made it third and 9 again, and put the game clock at 10:24, when it should have been 10:29. If they wanted to correct for the game clock starting 5 seconds before the snap when it shouldn’t have, they could have just added 5 seconds after the play and still made it 4th and 4. Saying the play didn’t happen was the third mistake, and even if it didn’t, putting the clock at 10:24 instead of 10:29 was the fourth mistake on a single play (actually the 4th mistake between 2 plays!).

That crew chief should be banned from the postseason for 10 years, and the NFL should make a public announcement of that so everybody knows there is accountability for the refs.

While I do not think that the game was "rigged" it was clear that one team was getting all the calls while the other was not. It was also very obvious that if the NFL and bettors ever wanted to rig a game it can easily be done. Rules are inconsistently enforced, and if it is a strange play they just pull out some random explanation that the networks/announcers just carry the water for. Networks make too much money in ratings/advertising so they are never going to actually call the league out too much.

Here's the Chris Jones play where he committed hands to the face, then landed on Burrow with full body weight, neither called, and I believe that was the play they called Burrow for grounding despite Perine being 4 yards away from it.

I know you post any and every single Tweet you find so don't take this personally but,

No, I'm not taking it personal; however, needless to say I don't post every tweet I find. Besides I learned a long time ago that if you want to continue posting on Buckeye Planet you have to be pretty "thick skinned" and be willing to take criticism. I'm actually surprised of how may people don't appreciate me reposting on real old threads. Anyway,

1. Like most people I post for a variety of reasons, i.e. provide Buckeye information, provide discussion topics, give an opinion, reply to question/post, offer something humorous, and/or just general information that may be of interest, etc. This post was probably in the fringe of "general information that may be of interest". Had the brothers not been from Ohio and not played at UC; I wouldn't have posted it. Since I ass/u/me that you are from Loveland OH and actually a UC fan, I would have thought you would have liked (or at least tolerated) anything positive about UC:

I haven't liked the school since the 60-61 & 61-62 basketball seasons and usually refer to them as Juggalos and/or Bearcraps.

2. I actually do appreciate responses to my posts even if it is constructive criticism/corrections/complaints as long as it is done in a "respectable manner"; at least it shows that I'm not totally wasting my time posting and someone is actually reading them.

Just my perspective... I know you weren't trying to be crass, but the business-as-usual comments about the Kelces felt crass to me because of how much that loss hurts. (I understand you wouldn't feel the pain nearly as much if you're not a Bengals fan.) Just another in a series of postseason losses where the Bengals/Buckeyes got screwed by officiating and it hurts more every time it seems. After the Buckeyes game I thought, well we still have the Bengals and maybe they'll get back to the SB. Nope, they got fucked too. Same as last year's SB and same as the Clemson game. This shit keeps happening and when will my teams stop getting screwed?

Kelce, apparently oblivious to the benefit of having the refs on his team exclaims, "Burrowhead my ass!!" Up yours, Kelce, with a red hot poker. Therefore, I give zero fucks about him, his brother, his mother, his grandpa, his trophy wife...

To be fair, I wholeheartedly disagree. They are borderline special needs when it comes to sports talk. Fuck the city, that team, their fans, and their shitty BBQ.
Hey, say what you want aboiut the Chiefs and their fans, but lay off the BBQ. BBQ didn't do anything to deserve that - unless it's that Carolina road kill and mustard stuff.
