New York Knicks (2x NBA Champions)

The only thing that really scares me about this is that NY is wheeling and dealing and one of the rumors was a Gooden for Richardson/Crawford type deal and this move kinda opens that up even more. Please let the Cavs keep Gooden, pretty please?

The only way the Cavs will deal Gooden is if it makes the team better this season and in the future. Pretty much everyone now is saying the Cavs are going to roll with who they have except for maybe a deal with the players that don't matter as much ie Henderson for Fortson (please please please please). They are playing well enough now that they should be able to make the playoffs as is, and hopefully get Hughes back once the playoffs start. If the Cavs did move Gooden it would have to be for a can't miss trade.

Man exhawg, you really got a thing with Fortson dont you? :wink2:

Im just kidding, if we traded Henderson for Fortson I would be ecstatic. He would bring a tough physical player in the post, and that is one of the things this team lacks.

The thing is, Isiah Thomas went up to Larry Brown something like two weeks ago and told Larry to make a list of players that he wants to get on the Knicks, so then they can deal for them.

Then he threw out the list at decided to go for any overpriced big name he can find.

Here is a copy of the list in case you were wondering:

Billups
Hamilton
Ben Wallace
Sheed
Lebron

AP: Knicks set to announce Walsh hiring

Knicks set to announce Walsh hiring

By BRIAN MAHONEY, AP Basketball Writer
2 hours, 23 minutes ago

The New York Knicks will turn their basketball operations over to Donnie Walsh on Wednesday. The Knicks will announce the hiring of Walsh as their new president at a news conference, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move has not been made official yet. The press conference is at 1 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.

Walsh, the longtime Indiana Pacers executive, will replace Isiah Thomas as president. Thomas is also the Knicks' coach.

Thomas' future remains unclear. He has repeatedly said he expects to be with the Knicks next season, but that likely will be up to Walsh ? who hired Thomas to coach the Pacers in 2000.

The Knicks fell to 20-54 with a 119-115 overtime loss at Milwaukee on Tuesday. They continue their five-game road trip Wednesday at Memphis.

Word of Walsh's hiring came long after the loss to the Bucks, but Thomas was asked following the game if he would have any regrets if his tenure as coach was ending.

"No, I look back and I look at what we started with and where we're going and I think we have a very bright future," Thomas said.

cont'd...

Knicks to pay Marbury $21.9 million to ride bench

The New York Knicks have no plans to do anything with Stephon Marbury, except pay him his $21.9 million salary and give him a great seat to watch all their games.
Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni and team president Donnie Walsh said that they will not waive, buy out or trade Marbury. They also will not let him play in games, unless there is an injury to their top three guards, Chris Duhon, Jamal Crawford and Nate Robinson.
After Walsh met with both D'Antoni and Marbury on Monday, the Knicks announced Tuesday that they feel the issue is dead. Marbury will be inactive until further notice.
"It is resolved," D'Antoni told a larger-than-usual contingent of reporters after practice on Tuesday. "It is. Pretty soon that story is not going to be fun to read because it is going to be the same old story.
"You are going to be beating a dead horse," he said.
Marbury, 31, was the face of the Knicks under Isiah Thomas, but D'Antoni has been lukewarm, at best, toward Marbury since training camp. So why keep the former All-Star, who has been a distraction in the past, on the team?
"It is a lot of money," D'Antoni said. "He has a contract, rightly so. If somebody gets hurt, we might need him. Why not? Steph has been great. He is part of the team. We are trying to do what is best for the Knicks."
Walsh said the case is "closed" on the Marbury controversy. Walsh said that he leaves playing time decisions to his coaches and does not interfere. Still, why keep Marbury on the team if there are no plans to play him?
"He is a good player," Walsh said.
When the media were allowed into practice Tuesday, Marbury rode a stationary bike alongside the injured Eddy Curry. Marbury did not participate in the Knicks' drills but was involved in the team's post-practice huddle.
Marbury, who does not have an agent, will be a free agent at the end of the season.

I can't believe that they are paying him $21.9 M and won't play or trade him.

I imagine if they could get anything more than a rack of balls for him, they would. Either way, they have to cough up 21mil for him, so they might as well keep him on the team just in case.

He must be a real head case behind the scenes to not even get a sniff of any minutes on that pathetic team.

His deal is expiring, so they could get something for him from a team thats in rebuilding mode and wants to unload some questionable contracts, I'd imagine. They'd just prefer to just let the money come off their own cap number at the end of this season.

Also, D'Antoni didn't like Marbury going all the way back to when Marbury was on the Suns and D'Antoni took over. Marbury was dealt shortly after D'Antoni was hired.

Donnie Walsh-

"Lebron, Chris come play in New York. Imagine you can play half your games in the hallowed ground of MSG. Even better you don't need to worry about any other players to pull the attention away from the two of you. In fact we will only have enough money to pay both of you so we are going to play 5 on 2 for the next 5 years. If you want us to we can fill out the roster with the D league All-Star team. Just sign on the dotted line."
