New Uniforms/Nike Changes (Basketball)

I'm not sure if I'm encouraged or disappointed by the revelation that other fan bases can be as silly about uniform design as ours is.
at some point, you lose the ability to mock others for focusing on uniforms.
Josh, why do say Nike is the "worst innovator," when all the athletes I know think Nike is both effective and stylish in their designs?
Nike is not effective in their designs. If they were, they wouldn't have to overhaul their designs every 1-3 years. Oregon, boise st, Miami, etc.

The uniforms with good designs are the ones they inherited from other companies/designers, and they merely streamlined and modernized them.

Nike's flagship school. Literally two dozen or more uniform designs in the past decade. 95% of them are widely regarded as an eyesore.

Putting a bra on their rivals :slappy: easily the most inexcusable and idiotic design I've seen in sports.

Those hated shoulder patches that leak and Marcus vick wore.
Nike stuff is usually re-designed for improved comfort, lighter weight, equal or improved protectiveness, and appeal to today's young athletes. Sorry it doesn't conform to your hidebound notions of "tradition," but maybe even you could accept the idea of function over form.
if a designer can't provide both, then they aren't very good at their jobs.

The function is not the reason the design stinks.
The only athletic gear companies that I think are superior to Nike in developing superior function in their clothing are Under Armour and lululemon, and both of those companies are much more limited in their offerings.
And I'd suggest that they aren't as offensive in their designs for school uniforms. They are trendy and flash in the pan, but they don't make you want to gouge your eyes out. Texas tech, Maryland, south Carolina. Not great, not bad.

Maryland and Texas tech don't need to change their uniforms after 2 years. Oregon has to, because they don't have a quality design. They rely on a very weak design that does not last beyond 18 months before it is tired. When is the last time someone looked at a Michigan helmet and thought its design was past its prime? How bout osu's? Texas?

Oregons wings are gimmicky and will undoubtedly need to be replaced or changed within 3 years. That's bad design.

And kids think it would be awesome for OSU top wear all scarlet, all black, black and scarlet, and have alternate helmets. Kids aren't a very good barometer for good design, particularly given how fast their tastes change.

I still cannot fathom how this made it past the first review. Who doesn't laugh off the notion of a bra for a sport played between tough guys?

This set isn't that bad overall, but the gimmicky wings ruin them. There's also the matter of a green & yellow team wearing largely only (a shade of) black.

Again they'd be alright if it weren't for the armor plating on the shoulders and the ugly yellow helmet (which ruins the left uni).

They have a rich history of failure. But no, there's no grounds for me calling them terrible innovators.

It's not a question of function vs form. Why can't we have both? If you can make all the technical advancements, go for it...just don't presume that because you came up with a jersey that's .85% lighter, you get to scrap a hundred years of [censored]ing tradition and start from scratch with your own vision.
"Tradition" for Ohio State, as I've pointed out elsewhere, consisted of changing uniform design every year or two, until relatively recently (ca. 1968). Tradition is a lot less important to me than what is attractive to the student-athletes. And I'm an old fart.

Oh, But you are.

Good design is functional, and attractive to the student-athlete. Fans can get used to anything if the team is winning. Sorry if you find your aesthetic sensibilities to be threatened by what is, without argument, an entirely subjective matter.

Lose my ability to mock you for your snooty and self-important commentary about uniform design? Never!!11!ones!!

I frankly don't give a shit what the unis look like, and I think those whose shorts get bunched up by the design of athletic clothing are being silly. That's all.

I hope you're not talking about the removal of the gray stripes from our scarlet jerseys a few years ago that caused such an uproar. The stripes we have on our scarlet jerseys now are the same as they were in the 1980s, when I was at OSU.

I'm getting older, but I'm not 100 years old. :p

I notice you side stepped the long list of awful 'innovations' in uniform design.

Or are you still trying to act like a new fabric technology nullifies any need for useful design?

Is it that hard to admit that those were some pretty hideous uniforms posted above?

you claimed their designs were attractive. Despite your unending quest to snipe from afar, you've accidentally taken a stance on their designs, even if that means you go along with whatever immature kids tweet about most.

If only nike baseball teams would have worn trucker hats or flat billed caps with the stickers still on them. Lord knows kids have a great and lasting taste for style. They aren't fickle or idolizing with their style choices, mimicking what MTV or celebrities tell them is cool.

You've really got it pegged.

Perhaps we should have the kids pick the designs for the school buildings, even take a vote for alternate school colors every few years. They're the ones paying and utilizing everything about osu.
Anyone that complains about osu having scarlet and grey plaid painted buildings, sidewalks is just being ridiculous, as long as the kids like it, who are you to object?

A lot of ohio state
Players think most of Oregon's alternates look hilariously bad (fortunately for us they wore their less abrasive white/green look). Does that mean the unis can finally be called bad because the kids thought so?

What if there's a three way split on the Oregon uniforms? How can I figure out whether highlighter yellow with silver school locker-esque stickers is an eyesore?

Help me tweeters, you're our only reasonable opinion.

Is the Ohio State men's basketball team supposed to get the new Hyperelite Aerograph jerseys anytime soon? I remember reading something about that a while back, and a lot of major programs have worn them this season (Kentucky, UConn, Texas, Michigan State, Syracuse, St. John's). I can't find much about it through google so if anyone has any info please let me know. Thanks!
