Awesome. So now he's ineligible to ever play for the Huskers, as per the NCAA. :)

Thought of that already...but he's only in the first grade, so we only have a couple more grades to go before Bama offers him any kind of schollie...

"Jack is the type of inspirational athlete who absolutely deserves an Upper Deck rookie card," said Chris Carlin, Upper Deck's sports marketing manager. "Upper Deck does not want to risk Jack's amateur status with the NCAA, so the card we created will not be part of a mainstream trading card release."

Big weekend turns around Nebraska recruiting

The Nebraska Cornhuskers weren't doing so hot on the recruiting trail, but one big weekend fixed that.

After winning their division in 2012, the Huskers were ranked 10th in the Big Ten -- ahead of just Indiana and Purdue -- heading into their "Big Red Weekend," an annual camp for potential players. Two players -- including their top QB target, Zack Darlington -- committed before the weekend started, and four more chose the Huskers based on what they saw in Lincoln. That haul included the top two players in the state of Nebraska, OG D.J. Foster and DT Mick Stotenberg.

Nebraska dismisses two players

Nebraska freshman defensive end Ernest Suttles has been kicked off the team after being ticketed for misdemeanor assault for allegedly striking linebacker David Santos in the head with a bottle at a party last week.
Coach Bo Pelini announced the dismissals of Suttles and linebacker Thomas Brown on Thursday night. Pelini did not give a reason in a statement released by the athletic department. Lincoln Police Capt. Danny Reitan said there was no record of Brown being connected to the alleged assault.

Suttles, from Tampa., Fla., was a highly regarded recruit. Pelini had said in February that Suttles had a chance to be an immediate contributor.

Reitan said a fight broke out during a party at a residence last Friday and that Suttles struck Santos in the forehead with a bottle. Reitan said it wasn't known whether Santos required medical treatment. Suttles was ticketed Wednesday.

I don't have a clue as to what is taking place in this picture, but it's entertaining nonetheless.

This is why I gave up football at an early age. I've stood next to a few of our linemen. I'm 6'2" and over three bills, and I'm dwarfed by these guys. It's crazy how much different the scale is on them compared to normal-sized humans. Martinez is about 6'0"/6'1" and he looks like a little kid next to these guys.

And aren't Wiscy's O linemen even bigger than most other teams'?

Historically, yes. A few years ago I think their o-line was bigger than all but 3 or 4 NFL teams (or something like that).

I cannot recall which poster brought this too my attention in a posting I closed while reading, but it is true .....

Nebraska is on NCAA probation for the modern equivalent of book burning, namely supplying professor-recommended books to students.

For shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They should have gone with Kindle downloads.

What next? Will they remove free speech protections for pro bona arm art?

This is true, and has to be one of the most bizarre NCAA violations ever.

Long story, each professor gives their students lists of books, both required and recommended. The book store where the scholarship athletes get their books was packaging every book on the list for the athletes. The NCAA determined - after Nebraska self-reported, mind you - that this was a violation because non-athletes weren't getting both recommended and required books, and we're on probation for two or three years. Started last year.

Meanwhile, Oregon has only slightly worse penalties than Nebraska for much worse violations. So it goes.
