Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

Every year thousands of Nebraska youth take the field at halftime of the annual spring game to take a pledge to say "NO!" to drugs, alcohol and tobacco. The pledge urges them to hold themselves accountable:
On my honor
as a responsible student,
I pledge not to use
drugs, alcohol, or tobacco.
I believe I can lead a better life
by staying drug free
and I further pledge
to encourage friends
not to use drugs, alcohol, or tobacco.
I am strong enough
to say "NO!"
With this year's spring game cancellation, parents across Nebraska are worried that their children will no longer be held accountable by the pledge and therefore free to do all the alcohol, drugs, and tobacco they want.

I've been doin that pledge for years now. Hasn't helped me any....

On the real, though - to say the pledge is exciting for the kids. They say the pledge quickly, then immediately attempt to relive whatever memory in Husker lore they love the most. Till the old crusties run em off the field.

The spring game is always exciting. Former Huskers come back, sign autographs. Helps when they're doing well in the NFL, of course. A few years ago, we took a busload of kids down to the game and saw Cory Ross and Brandon Jackson hanging with each other. They were the most polite and humble guys to be around. Even gave the kids some pointers about being running backs and working hard.

We've already derailed the Oregon Pot Smokin' thread enough. Here's some Jared Tomich highlights for the unbeliever:

Dear Cornhusker fans...

Given how graciously we were welcomed to Lincoln, let me apologize in advance for the "hospitality" you will receive from many of our t-shirt alumni after a full day of tailgating.

Remember- not every Buckeye fan is that way, no more than every 'Husker is Larry the Cable Guy.

Dear Buckeye fans...

Not every asshole Buckeye fan are "t-shirt" alumni. Some actually went to tOSU. Kinda tired of the ridiculous assumption that the only assholes in S&G are people that didn't attend college.

Oh, sure... I get that. I was just speaking from my experience. OSU students can be a-holes just as easily as non-alumni can be stellar individuals.

I count myself in that last category, by the way, although the jury is constantly reassessing my position.

Mali, like me, has been to Nebraska, because we've joined in matrimony with famillies based there.

Have you been to Aksarben, Kyle?

Depends on what the definition of "good" is.

Once you're outside of Omaha, you could take a picture of that sign from the Rockies.

That's downtown Lincoln, in case you were wondering.

You're not helping your case with that statement. :slappy:
