Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

The Huskers fell to Minnesota on the road, 30-23. The loss dropped Nebraska to 3-5 overall, 1-4 in Big Ten play and has Scott Frost just one loss away from assuring he will not have a regular season record of over .500 for the fourth time in his four years as the head coach of his alma mater. What once looked to be a very bright future under Frost now looks to be getting darker by the day.

Just sayin': Now that Orgeron is out at LSU (after the season) Frost has to be the #1 FBS coach on the proverbial "hot seat". I always thought you got to give the football coach 4 years so he has a roster of "his guys"; well, this is his 4th year. I've always like Corn, they definitely have a classy fan base; however, I don't mind seeing any school's athletic program failing that has an Athletic Director named Trev Alberts.

This man says hold my beer. :

He's only been at Miami for 2yrs, is from Miami and his dad was a former mayor

I don't know that Nebraska could have gotten into FG territory in the amount of time remaining, but that has to be one of the slowest whistles on record. Ball should have remained in Nebraska's hands, placed at forward progress. But Michigan NEVER gets a call from Big 10 refs, so there is that to consider.

Wonder who gets the no-calls when Michigan plays Penn State.

Well, there was 1:45 left, they would of had a 1st and 10 at their own 38, and Corn had all three of their TOs left. Even if they ran out of time the score was tied and they still would have had a chance to in in OT.

Somebody needs to explain the Gruden fascination to me. Since winning a SuperBowl with Tony Dungy's team, he's a sub .500 coach and destroyed two rosters before getting shit canned.

Maybe it's just because he looks like Chucky:

As an NFL head coach he had a mediocre record of 117-112; he was instrumental in some really bad personnel acquisitions while at Las Vegas too. Overall, I'll say he was a much better Monday Night Football commentator than he was as a NFL head coach.

Here's a really good article listing some of the pros and cons on firing Frost:

The “Should Scott Frost Be Fired?” Report Card: Grading The Arguments For and Against Scott Frost Keeping His Job

Entire article: https://www.cornnation.com/2021/11/...e-arguments-for-and-against-frost-keeping-his

I do know that Nebraska may never return to their "glory years" due to some conditions that exist today:

1) Nebraska doesn't produce the number of 4 and 5 star recruits necessary to contend for the National Championship every year. They are no longer able to consistently recruit in Texas and haven't established any other areas that would be a replacement.
2) Recruiting is now much more thorough, quality walk ons do not slip through the cracks. There just aren't the number of high quality walk ons that there use to be.
3) Steroids are now illegal and tested for.

Unless something drastically changes I think that the best Corn can hope for is possibly replacing Cheese as the primary contender in the B1G West.

Usually I say you have to give the guy 4 years so he has a change to get his recruits, etc. Well, Frost has had 4 years now and Corn really hasn't shown any improvement in wins/losses. Maybe he has made significant improvements in some of the other areas, i.e. higher GPAs, fewer players arrested, and/or worked with the alumni to get more $$$ donated, etc. I don't know.

If Frost is fired, for simplicity’s sake, on Dec. 31, 2021 – i.e., the final day of the second year of his contract – Nebraska would owe him $5 million for 2022 and $2.5 million for each of the final four years. Buyout total: $15 million.

Frost is definitely a "Nebraska Man" and if he can "get the ship righted" he'd be lifer coach at Corn, i.e. like Fitzgerald at NW and Chryst at Cheese, etc. If you don't have an absolute "home run" hire to replace him, (with a $15M buyout) I'll say give him another year or 2. Hey, he did come within 1 score of beating 3 top 10 teams so far this season.

Anyway, Corn's AD is a total asshole and whatever decision he makes will probably just screw it up....
