NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

Another show of support for the rational by Fiutak at CFN.

Is he rationally comparing OJ Simpson's double murder trial as a 50 year old man to that of Reggie Bush's winning the Heisman as an ineligible player?

No one is calling for Simpson's Heisman because he wasn't an ineligible player the year he won it and he didn't commit double murder during his college football years. (that we know of...) Reggie Bush just may have been ineligible.

Can Bush win the Heisman if he wasn't eligible to even play that year?

If the allegations are true.

methomps, I want to publicly draw attention to the mature, balanced way in which you have reacted to a situation that obviously impacts on you as a Trojan fan. In all seriousness, this is real "class act" stuff and I know I speak for many here when I say how much it is appreciated. Greenies for you!

Don't get me wrong, by the way, we still want to see you guys lose five games next year:wink2: .

Methomps as an obviously informed fan, how concerned are you at this point? Is this just the typical overblown investigation that so many NC teams endure or is there a real concern on the part of the SC faithful.

It's definitely not overblown. Whether anything will come of it is anyone's guess. Could be several years before this is resolved.

Methomps. What is your take on Jarrett's situation. By the rules posted he received benefits from a booster. I don't think that an exception to the rule will apply here. Do you see an NCAA action occuring?

I see a couple games, more if Jarrett doesn't have the means to repay.

Thanks, but don't get our hopes up. We're fielding a pro team. How are we going to lose to a bunch of amateurs?

USC boosters aren't involved in the Reggie Bush situation.

Correct. They are considered as AGENTS by the NCAA. Bob Leinart is a booster.

I found thishttp://www.terrapinclub.com/Booster%20Brochure%20Spring%202005.pdf

I found it interesting that it is worded if a S/A

Negotiates, signs, or enters into any written or oral agreement with an agent (New Era)

One accepts or recieves any extra benefits (including family members) from an agent or anyone who wishes to represent the student athlete.

Plastered all over this brochure (that is givent to the S/A) is in large print....

ASK BEFORE YOU ACT

Yes, its for Maryland University but I have a difficult time believing that this brochure is in anyway, unique

I can't wait to see what the NCAA digs up on USC after they wade in on this one. IMO it's going to get ugly in SoCAL Real soon. Jarret is under investigation as well... LMAO.

He is some photoshop smack I have worked on for this topic.

I'm still sandy from the NCAA investigations of Ohio State. It seemed like only days after the National Championship and they were already in Columbus looking under every rock to see what they could find. With all the Hollywood glitz and glamour I thought for sure many of their highprofile players where on the take. Heck when AJ's suff got stolen before the ND bowl game last year I'm surprised they didn't make him in eligible so their media favorite Weise could pad his record.

This Exile loves conspiracys!

First let me say one thing - methomps, you are right, I looked over the many articles after you corrected that statement of mine earlier in the thread - and there has not been one such explicit statement by Bush or step-pa on New era. All are tight lipped.

Some of the principals in this will not be so silent for much longer however, at least if the FBI has its way. (And with that I do not mean Bush and his family, for they are voluntarily assisting the Feds).

Bush attorney: FBI investigating sports marketing firm
<hr noshade="noshade" size="1" width="100%"> Associated Press

SAN DIEGO -- The FBI has opened an investigation into a fledgling San Diego sports marketing firm that tried to recruit Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush, the attorney for the football star's family told The Associated Press on Wednesday. Attorney David Cornwell of Atlanta said FBI agents interviewed him about "potential federal crimes" last week by phone. Cornwell said he intends to make Bush and his parents available to the FBI. "They've asked now to interview Reggie and his parents," Cornwell said. "I intend to cooperate, yes." April Langwell, an FBI spokeswoman in San Diego, said she could neither confirm nor deny any investigations. The NCAA and Pac-10 are investigating whether any rules were broken when Bush's family lived in a suburban San Diego home owned by Michael Michaels, a principal in New Era Sports & Entertainment, while Bush was still playing for Southern California last season. The NCAA prohibits student-athletes and their families from receiving extra benefits from agents or their representatives. Michaels and his partner, Lloyd Lake, a documented gang member serving time in prison, formed New Era late last year in the hopes of signing Bush to handle his marketing and bring aboard a San Diego agent to handle contract negotiations. Their hopes were dashed when Bush signed with another agent and marketing representative. San Diego attorney Brian Watkins, who represents New Era, said in April he plans to sue Bush's parents for $3.2 million. Watkins said Bush's parents owed $54,000 in rent for the year they lived in Michaels' house. "We have been contacted by the FBI to discuss the conduct of the individuals represented by Watkins," Cornwell said. Reached by phone Wednesday, Watkins said he was unaware of the FBI investigation. Bush and his family have so far declined to be interviewed by NCAA and Pac-10 investigators. Cornwell said they were unwilling to rovide information that could be used by Watkins but indicated he was willing to cooperate. "The issue with the FBI is similar to the NCAA. I want to balance the cooperation with the FBI against my needs to protect my client's interest with regard to threatened litigation," Cornwell said. Bush was expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft, but the Houston Texans bypassed him and took North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams. Bush went to New Orleans with the second pick. Before the NFL draft in late April, the league alerted some teams about a potential attempted extortion of Bush's family.
