NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

Seems like the firm is pretty intent on going after Bush, but I doubt much happens to USC. Pete may irritate the crap out of me but he's got his campus too open for me to believe he knows anything funny is going on. IF anything SC will basically ban him from the sidelines and he'll lose that heisman of his.

However, if worst did come to worst and they did lose that national championship, there's two ways that could effect the team, one they could try to come back with a vengance, or two it could destroy a great program. The major question from that is how will this effect recruiting? I haven't looked at their 2008 commits but I have to assume that they have most, besides, the song girls are enough for a few of those guys who have never seen a true to life fake breasted california blonde.

Once it hits the courts, not much they can do to hide the evidence. The NCAA will get a look at everything out there. The lawsuit was the downfall of O'Brien. It should be interesting to see where this goes.

That is one milestone date.

The other is 11/2 (Friday) when Lake intends to meet with NCAA investigators.

I'm sure its been mentioned but no matter what, the NCAA can't take away the NC because they don't give it. The worst they could do is make them forfeit wins from that year as far as the record books go.

I've heard about this for a while now....this story is alot smaller than I thought it would be... Troys $500 had alot more national attention....maybe because he was still here?

If by national attention you mean espin coverage, espin broke the Clarett story and then tried to couple all the Clarett crap with what happenend with Troy. espin was trying to make their Clarett story look legitimate by piggy backing onto the Troy story. That's why you saw so much coverage of that.

YAHOO broke the Reggie Bush story so the coverage on espin has been, in a word, limited.

True dat. ESPN didn't break it, they got scooped on it so they will only report the facts as they emerge. Since Yahoo originally broke this, they are the ones hunting Bush and USC down. They don't have the power of ESPN, but they are obviously pursuing this hunt to the end. The outcome of the meeting on Friday is......big. Now that someone involved is actually talking and may actually have real documentation of what occured, this could move forward. Then we'll see what USC knew or as the columns suggest, what they "should have known" in the NCAAs eyes.

If you're holding someone ransom, you kinda lose all your leverage when you kill them.

Except that Lake may have decided that the real leverage he needs is the threat of the meeting. Of course once the meeting takes place then Lake is effectively depending on the strength of his evidence - so perhaps the NCAA learns of this before the court date.

If this stays in the courts it may be quite a while before anything is known. They could go through motions, hearings etc for quite a while trying to drag their feet.
See above,
Either it doesn't get to court - so no deposition for Bush - just another six-fgure settlement.
Or, no cheque from Reggie means Lake tells all - and at that point why even wait for the court date to inform the NCAA.
(The court proceeds at it's own pace seperate from the NCAA investigation).
