NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

BuckeyeNation. The answer to your question is that most people from Youngstown knew what MoC was all about. Troy's allegations were troubling. If you didn't have a clue about MoC during the first Fiesta Bowl when he called Geiger a liar than you missed the hint of things to come.
So your "if it smells rotten it probably is" didn't apply then because apparently the whole world was comprised of people from youngstown. a simple "you are right" will suffice next time.

Thank you Grad for validating my "living like a rockstar" claim that some people didn't take a liking to. This whole thing stinks big time. USC will get what they deserve. If that is proven to be nothing then that's just fine with me. Maybe there is some reasonable explaination for all of this. I sure would like to hear it!

thomps, i dont know how to word this but can you show us some places that typical kids would live out there, places close to campus so we can compare costs. i realize at the University of Spoiled Children these things can be skewed, but like the bush house real estate is diff than it is here in ohio. the thought of paying 10k (plus the rent dj paid) is unheard of and would put you likely in a condo in one of the nicest suburbs in colulmbus.

I think the average rent is about $1,000 a month in the area around USC. This link takes you to Conquest Housing, which owns several apartments in the neighborhood. The first place shown is Tuscany, where I would be living if my SC acceptance letter had come 2 months earlier than it did.

It, like Medici, is really nice:

 • Free high-speed internet
 • Free Dish TV service
 • 24-hour security
 • full-service concierge
 • health spa w/ two steam rooms and two saunas
 • fitness center
 • olympic swimming pool and 2 spas
 • massage therapy room
 • Quiznos, Coldstone, and Robek's downstairs
*****There are two very exclusive penthouse units located on the 5th floor. These are the highest quality apartments available at USC, and are meant for those with the most discriminating tastes who are unwilling to accept anything but the best. These two elegant penthouses have amazing views, and feature vaulted ceilings in both bedrooms and the living room. What better way to end a long day of classes than relaxing in your marble Jacuzzi tub sipping an Ice Blended from downstairs. The breathtaking units also include world class kitchens with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, marble back splash, tiled floors, and solid maple cabinets. The penthouses also feature tiled entry and kitchen floors, berber carpeting throughout, marble and travertine baths, extensive hand-crafted wood-work, and the best parking spaces in the building. There are no unit numbers for these two units; they are simply referred to as "Penthouse 1" and "Penthouse 2."

F'ing slow admissions staff :(

Now these apartments are not average. They are luxury apartments, but I linked it to demonstrate that LA is not Medici and a bunch of shacks. For an idea of where average students live, check out the other properties. If you consider Tuscany or Medici "living like a rockstar", then lots of USC students live like rockstars.

It was never my intent to try to deceive you into thinking they weren't living in a really nice place.

BuckeyeNation. If you believed that MoC was a credible source to begin with then your assertion that "you are right will suffice" would be true. I don't think you needed to be from Y'town to read between the lines. Obviously many people were fooled by Mr. Friend's honest attempt of reporting. I consider Matt's father a credible source and the fact that Bush's family slipped away in the night probably validates certain claims that were made. Anybody wondering how many players around the country are looking for new places to live this week.

Agree completely. I don't see the Jarrett issue as a major problem...stupid oversight...maybe. Might be more to it, but no need to assume as much. I do see PC's reputation taking a hit though...just like Tressel, he should have seen certain things and asked questions regarding those observations.

Now if more continues to come out, which is being rumored, then there is a plausible correlation. However, during MoC-gate, there were a number of phantom stories that were "just about to come out" yet never did...

The fact of the matter is that people are profiting from these stories...no matter how accurate they are or how sketchy the details, people are making money. Therefore, the misleading hyperbole is expected.

So, the "if it smells rotten it probably is" wasn't part of your vocabulary back then. Got it.

I truly do not understand the seeming animosity of many here towards USC.

The biggest problem with the entire MoC saga is that it was first reported by a psycho bitch that clearly had an agenda. It was then carried even further by an insane talent who clearly wished to do nothing but throw his life down the toilet (and succeeded, by the way). But, to an outsider, how could you not consider an OSU player to be a credible source? Sure, we knew better...we who are die-hard fans. But what about an average USC fan? When they hear that MoC reported, himself, that he received improper benefits from his head coach, what the hell are they supposed to think? Especially when, less than six months later, Troy Smith admits to receiving improper benefits from a booster? And considering that MoC's allegations were confirmed by 5 other former players, who wouldn't think that OSU was dirty?

So far, I haven't heard about any USC players, former or current, make any allegations, or sell out their school in any way. In fact, I haven't heard from any neutral source whatsoever that anything improper has taken place.

What it comes down to is this - there aren't enough facts out there right now. Maybe these players were receiving improper benefits, and maybe not...but any OSU fan that begins disparaging USC right now, with the information we have, is basically a hypocrite, and I don't want anything to do with you.

Well, for me, it's:

Wow those are some nice apartments. The closest I ever came to a Penthouse in college was the Penthouse on my coffee table.

I said this earlier, but I'll say it again. During Clarett/Smith-gate there was rampant speculation in the sports media. Espn was running stories on the coach, about the shady characters he dealt with during the YSU days, about the women's b-ball team receiving alleged benefits, former players. The list goes on. The sports media seems to be reporting only what they are hearing about USC. There is very little speculation going on. That's the difference to me.
