USC suspends Marc Tyler

USC announced Monday that it has suspended running back Marc Tyler for the season opener against Minnesota on Sept. 3 and from all team activities immediately for comments made to TMZ recently.
Tyler, who appeared intoxicated on video, said he was "joking" when he said he responded to a question about if athletes were paid more at USC or in the pros.
"USC," Tyler said. "They breaking bread."

Heisman replica returned to Bush

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Reggie Bush's family has taken back a copy of his 2005 Heisman Trophy from a San Diego sports museum.

The San Diego Hall of Champions said it returned the trophy to the family on Friday and declined further comment.

The museum received the trophy from the family in March but never displayed it.

Bush relinquished his title as Heisman winner last year after an NCAA probe concluded that he and his family accepted improper benefits from would-be sports agents while Bush was still playing for USC.

The Heisman Trust, which was considering stripping Bush of the award, decided to vacate the title for that season.

Marc Tyler's Dad: My Son Is NOT Getting Paid

Marc Tyler's father tells TMZ ... the suspended USC running back should have known better than to joke about the university paying football players ... but says he's 100% certain Marc has NOT taken one illicit penny from the school.

TMZ spoke with Wendell "The Truth" Tyler -- a former NFL running back who played college ball at UCLA.

Wendell tells us, "Marc is accepting the punishment because he knows as a Christian he shouldn't have allowed himself to get in that position ... saying what he said."

Wendell insists that "Marc was clearly joking" ... telling us the USC player still relies on his parents to cover his expenses outside of his scholarship.

"Marc is DEFINITELY not getting paid ... so I don't know what he was thinking when he said it."

Still, Wendell admits ... "It's a wake up call."
