NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

I don't normally listen to sports radio, but hey, today is the news day of all news days....

So Keshawn Johnson is on 1460 to "give the pulse of the Trojan Nation".

I can't do it justice. I really can't. My best paraphrase is: "When a program is winning folks will drop the dime and try to bring them down. Somebody calls and the NCAA starts going through your trash. They couldn't prove anything about Reggie so they just came up with this institutional control thing because they wanted to find something".

I [censored] you not. This was the gist.

But it gets better. When asked about how it will impact current and future recruits he said, as best I can restate "Not at all. I have been talking with kids from the 2010 and 2011 classes in the past 24 hours and they said this changes nothing."

So, this former USC player - i.e. booster - has been talking to unsigned recruits in regards to their intention to attend USC.

Anybody know where Keshawn keeps his trash?

So... let me understand this... USC has been on probation, officially, for 1 hour and 7 minutes and they've already had a booster violate their probation. WOW

After reading over the report, I think the NCAA went easy on them. They had athletes receiving improper benefits in three different athletic programs, they only had 1 to 2 people employed to monitor their entire program during the period of violations(?!?!?!), the coach hired an additional coach beyond the NCAA limit and SC wrote the checks knowing full well that it was a violation.

They should have gotten the TV ban too IMO.

Just so I'm clear. 10 schollies a year for 3 years.

2011 85-10 = 75
2012 75-10 = 65
2013 75-10 = 55
2014 - back to 85?

From reading the actual NCAA report:

2011 - They are limited to 15 for the year and 75 max
2012 - They are limited to 15 for the year and 75 max
2013 - They are limited to 15 for the year and 75 max
2014 - They are limited to 25 for the year and 85 max

But, if they are at 85 for the coming year, with 20 departures after the season, they'll only be able to take 10 to get to 75. The year after that, if they have 20 departures, they'll take 15 but that will only get them to 70. At the end of 2013, if they're at 65, with 15 departures, they'll only be able to get back to 75 with a full class of 25.

I don't think they'll have a full roster until 2015.

You've heard the expression "Manny (Ramirez) is just being Manny"; well, I'd call that "USC is just being USC".

Just so it's clear to Mr. Johnson...

Who is a "Prospective
Student-Athlete"?
A prospective student-athlete, commonly known as a "prospect," is any individual who has started classes for the 9th grade. In addition, individuals enrolled in preparatory schools or two-year colleges are considered prospects. Ultimately, a student remains a prospect until enrollment at a four-year collegiate institution.

*MAY speak to a prospect on the telephone ONLY if the prospect initiates and places the call. You are not permitted to have a recruiting conversation, but you may exhibit normal civility. Under such circumstances, you must refer all questions about the athletics program to the coaching staff.

*MAY NOT make any recruiting contacts with prospects or their relatives. This includes telephone calls, letters, emails, and facsimiles, along with any face-to-face contact either on- or off-campus.

Firstly, hahahahahahahaha at U$C and especially at Kiffin. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving individual.

Secondly, I'll take a short break for the SC bashing and wonder if anyone else finds it extremely ironic that on the day the NCAA crushed a major program with major violations for essentially being unable to (or refusing to) monitor the amateurism of their athletes, that the conference to which the program belongs expanded for the sole reason of increasing their TV market/profits? The entire expansion about to happen makes a mockery over the idea that these are amateur sports (not that I care, because it should result in some sweet football).

Now back to your regularly scheduled USC bashing.
