NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

Just in case there is not enough evidence to link the "who knew what, and what did they do to protect the amateur status of Bush". . .
The NCAA will be deeply interested in the March 5, civil lawsuit depostion of Michael Michaels that will not be protected by the confidentiality clause in the settlement between Bush and Michaels.
Rivals/Yahoo
During the deposition, Michaels, who received a settlement reportedly worth $300,000 from Bush in 2007, is expected to corroborate the claims of fellow former marketing agent Lloyd Lake. . .
The NCAA has sought to talk to Michaels because he reached a settlement with Bush. Michaels has been unable to speak because the settlement included a confidentiality clause. But that clause does not apply to other legal proceedings if Michaels is subpoenaed.
Watkins said he and partner Paul Wong have filed a subpoena of Michaels and submitted that paperwork to Bush?s attorney. Michaels? deposition can be shared publicly. Bush?s former attorneys previously had argued unsuccessfully that Michaels? deposition should remain private.
The NCAA could include the deposition as evidence in its investigation of the USC programs. The Committee on Infractions generally takes six-to-eight weeks to reach a decision on investigations.

Dear God,
Hey its me, hey tell Urban you'll call him back and give me 30 seconds ok? Thanks. Listen I know you are pissed at me for whatever the fuck I did in the womb or what some ancestor did, but that's not why I'm calling.

If you could do me a small favor, I'd really appreciate it if you could see your way clear to letting the NCAA break one off in USC's ass. Okay? Thanks

There needs to be a vbet as to whether that depo gets continued......can't see how USC wants that to take place now.

Garrett's gruff manner has made enemies, but now he might need every friend he can get as NCAA storm clouds gather above his successful program. So he's making a try at letting his guard down.

Mike Garrett brought a Heisman Trophy to Heritage Hall when he played for USC in the 1960s, and he has helped the Trojans become a national powerhouse in several sports since becoming athletic director. (Luis Sinco / Los Angeles Times / February 10, 2010)

The frown that Mike Garrett often wears in public, an expression made of blunt features set hard as stone, gives way to something unexpected. His eyes glisten with tears.

"I frankly don't know why I'm being so emotional," he says.

This is not the USC tailback from the 1960s, bulling his way to a Heisman Trophy. Not the gruff athletic director who has presided over sports at his alma mater for two decades, winning championships by the fistful.

Entire article: USC Athletic Director Mike Garrett opens up, just a bit - latimes.com

He sounds like an arrogant, power hungry, douchey, asshole.

College football: For USC, it?s time to wait, sweat
NCAA examining evidence of possible major violations

By Pete Thamel

THE NEW YORK TIMES

TEMPE, Ariz. - With the knot of his light purple tie loosened from his neck and the jacket from his stylish khaki suit long removed, Lane Kiffin left the University of Southern California's hearing with the NCAA's committee on infractions.
Looking restless, Kiffin declared to no one in particular Saturday, "I've never moved less in a 72-hour period."
Now that the three-day hearing before the NCAA is over, the real anxiety will come over the next two months. That is about how long it will take for the committee on infractions to determine the fate of USC's athletic department, football and men's basketball programs.
The list of potential NCAA infractions is familiar at this point, most notably reports of a long list of extra benefits - including cash, housing and a car - to former Trojans such as Reggie Bush, Joe McKnight and O.J. Mayo.
Perhaps now the most important question will be what happens to the football program, whose case before the NCAA occupied two of the three days of this hearing. Trojans football is one of the most revered brand names in college sports.

Dear Jax,
Hey its me, hey tell your friend Gator you'll call him back and give me 30 seconds ok? Thanks. Listen I know you and I both must have gotten on The Almighty's bad side for something a shared ancestor did, but that's not why I'm calling.

If you could do me a small favor, I'd really appreciate it if you could see your way clear to not make me laugh out loud at work anymore. Okay?
Thanks

Who would have guessd it?

PAC-10: The biggest cheaters of all time.

17184_full.jpg

Regardless, it?s a stain on the university?s record. It will also give USC a sizable lead as the PAC-10 biggest cheaters in footballhttps://web1.ncaa.org/LSDBi/exec/miSearch. The Trojans have been nailed five times for major violations since the NCAA started cracking down on institutions in 1953. This will be No. 6, giving USC a two-violation lead over runner-up scofflaws Arizona State and California.

The rest: Washington 3, UCLA 3, Oregon 2, Arizona 2, Oregon State 1, Washington State 1, Stanford squeaky clean.

In other news it seems that Sean Henderson has come to terms with the USC administration/coaching staff and Seantrel will sign there this coming week.

Congrats to both sides for getting the deal done!!

I know...and the way this whole thing went down I'm having trouble with the whole "good luck young man" feeling. I don't think I'll be rooting for USC or anyone on that team for a quite a while.

You really have to show some respect to Seantrel for how he's handled the situation. He obviously could have held out for a little more guaranteed money, but you can tell he just wanted to get this behind him so he can join the team. Also, if the extra reps and added time to get comfortable with the playbook can get him in the lineup earlier, it could pay dividends in a year or two when he can renegotiate his contract. Class, and smarts.

I thought he might want a shot at a championship, but I guess the big contract was just too good to pass up...

I thought he wouldn't need the money since we all know his dad is a legendary rapper.
