NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

San Antonio's airport only has one toilet? Jesucristo!
Yeah ... something is fishy with the story, since San Antonio actually has a fairly large two terminal International Airport that services about 10 different major carriers.

So the USC coaches decided to do the thing girls do and all go hang out in the bathroom together? Weirdos. I hope Oregeron had his shirt on.
Little did Neuheisel know that Ron Zook, Paul Petrino, and Dan Disch were the ones giggling in the adjacent stall.

With respect to others who feel differently, I'm not a fan of the "USC will get slapped on the wrist while Ohio State was so mercilessly persecuted."

One of the great outcomes of the NCAA camp out in Columbus was that we were cleared of everything, except the O'Brien violations which we discovered, notified the NCAA of and fired the coach for so fast we violated his contract.

The constant refrain of the Ohio State haters--whether Michigan fans or the loathsome rodent-like creatures who inhabit the various Fredo boards--is that Ohio State was given a free pass because of their money and power. "Ohio State really is corrupt, but the NCAA was too afraid to do anything about it," is their mindless refrain. The defense to that is how is Ohio State soooo powerful when the NCAA has dropped major violation penalties over the past 20 years on Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, and Alabama? What makes us different that the NCAA was willing to whitewash our transgressions?

I know it's taken some time, but I believe that was largely the result of Reggie Bush being able to tell a subpoena-less NCAA to go fuck itself after he was in the NFL. The civil suit essentially gave the NCAA a backdoor route to get his sworn testimony on the matter, and now we come to this. I want to be optimistic for the sole reason that if USC gets off Scot free, then it completely undermines Ohio State's defense of the accusations that were leveled against its program.

From people who know much more than most of us will ever know, the scope and depth of OSU's investigation was almost unprecedented. The NCAA's impression of OSU after the investigation was that OSU was a "model program".... their words... not mine. OSU took its turn under the microscope and passed with flying colors. USC? I guess that remains to be seen, but from what I've read, Mike Garrett is a complete hack compared to Geiger when it comes to running an athletic department. And Pete Carrol and Lane Kiffin's resumes speaks for themselves when it comes to compliance.

Will USC Have To Give a Championship and Heisman To Oklahoma and Texas?

Thursday, the University of Southern California met with the NCAA infractions committee to dispute allegations of major NCAA rules violation which will likely go into Saturday. Even though these meetings are usually held in hotel conference rooms, they feel more like court rooms, especially for the accused.
It has been a long time coming for any college football fan that doesn't don Cardinal and Gold and maybe even more so for those that do and have a tendency to worry.
The second I heard Pete Carroll took the Seattle Seahawks job, I thought the NCAA must have notified USC of the hearing, a few days later Yahoo sports! confirmed it.
My second thought was, you know who just might be crazy enough to replace him, Lane Kiffin, unusual for me to be right twice in the same day.
While hotel conference rooms are not courtrooms and the NCAA has no legal authority that is not necessarily a good thing for USC because it's true that the NCAA cannot subpoena, but they also don't have the burden of innocent until proven guilty.

If anything, said items will be vacated, not forfeited. Oklahoma won't receive a trophy out of this.

USC?s NCAA meeting ends with Floyd

TEMPE, Ariz. ? Former University of Southern California men?s basketball coach Tim Floyd spent approximately eight hours Saturday in front of the NCAA Committee on Infractions as the body concluded three days of hearings that may lead to sanctions against the school?s football and men?s basketball programs.
?I can?t comment,? said Floyd, who resigned last June in the aftermath of a Yahoo! Sports report that he paid at least $1,000 in cash to former Mayo associate Rodney Guillory. Floyd has maintained he was not involved in any wrongdoing. When asked if he came to the proceedings in an effort to clear his name in hopes of coaching again at the college level, Floyd said, ?I think it?s the right thing to do.?
The NCAA has been investigating USC?s programs for nearly four years. The committee is expected to rule in six-to-eight weeks, although NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn said difficult cases can take longer.
NCAA Vice President of Enforcement Services David Price declined to comment on specifics, but said this was the longest case he has had in his 11 years in his job. In fact, the 2002 case against the Alabama football program, which resulted in probation and a loss of scholarships for the Crimson Tide, took two days for the committee to discuss.
After the hearings broke, multiple boxes were brought from the room. One dolly carried seven boxes of documents and two six-inch, spiral binders filled with what was titled as USC?s responses to the investigation. After that, another dozen boxes were removed from the room.
USC President Steven Sample said, ?It?ll come out. It?ll be great.?
USC Athletic Director Mike Garrett said only that he was ?glad it?s over.?
School spokesman James Grant said: ?As we talked about earlier, we?ve been asked by the chairman of the committee (Paul Dee) not to discuss proceedings but we do want to thank the committee and the NCAA staff and everyone involved for these proceedings and [we?re] pleased that we we?re able to present our side of the events and look forward to an outcome and to moving on.?
Asked if he had an expected timetable for a ruling, Grant said: ?We look forward to the conclusion of this process in the coming weeks.?

College Football Today

According to College Football Talk, it apears that RBs coach Todd Mc Nair's testimony will be central to charges by NCAA of "Lack of Institutional Control" and the ensuing sanctions.

Hearing over, USC awaits fate | CollegeFootballTalk.com
much of the focus centered on running back coach Todd McNair, the most likely connection between the coaching staff and the improper benefits that Reggie Bush received
.

USC's McNair in NCAA crosshairs | CollegeFootballTalk.com
. . . Because of the gag order, we're left to ponder what it means that RB coach Todd McNair was, as the Los Angeles Times put it, grilled for two of the scheduled three days regarding his knowledge of the Reggie Bush "situation". What was said by McNair to the committee members will likely go a long way toward determining what, if any, sanctions are handed down.
McNair is rumored to have -- at the very least -- some knowledge of the illegal benefits.that were allegedly given to the former USC back and his family.
