Indiana University supports most of NCAA findings in Sampson case

CBSSports.com wire reports
INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana University believes there is enough evidence to show former coach Kelvin Sampson provided false and misleading information to investigators, didn't appropriately monitor his staff and failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance during his 1?-year tenure at the school.
The revelations were made in a 96-page case summary detailing the NCAA's four major accusations against Sampson, his staff and the Hoosiers. The report was sent to the school last week and was released publicly Thursday after the Associated Press made a Freedom of Information request.
University officials agreed with most of the facts the NCAA outlined although they only acknowledged there was enough evidence to support the charges of providing false and misleading information to investigators and contended some of the violations should be classified as secondary.
Athletic department officials declined comment Thursday through spokesman J.D. Campbell. Campbell has said nobody from the university will comment until after Indiana's hearing before the infractions committee next week in Seattle.
The report provides new details into the allegations that rocked the Hoosiers' men's basketball program. Among the evidence cited is a series of interview transcripts from recruits, their parents or coaches, that paint a picture of how the calls, which Sampson contends he was unaware were three-way calls, worked.
"I don't want to give you misinformation, but I believe, uh, uh, uh, I would believe that coach Senderoff called me, you know, and that's when they started to flop the phones, you know," recruit DeJuan Blair told NCAA investigators on Dec. 11. "They were both on the phone, I'm, they both was on the phone talking, we all was on the phone."
Sampson has repeatedly denied any intentional wrongdoing and sent his own response to the NCAA last month, arguing he was never given a fair chance to make his case.
He and his staff are accused of making more than 100 impermissible calls, and Sampson has continued to say he was forthcoming with investigators. He accepted a $750,000 buyout to leave the school in February and is now an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks

What a courageous position - support the NCAA's findings given that those findings support your own case in the event Kelvin Sanctions comes a-callin' with a lawsuit.

Not saying the allegations are incorrect, but IU has a vested interest in making Sampson look as bad as possible. The media should really point that out if they intend to continue to use the "journalism" moniker.

I mean to Indiana basketball fans it might have felt like 17 years but it really don't think it was that long. It will be very interesting to see how hard the NCAA comes down on them since there is such a historic program:)

Kelvin Sampson waived his right to sue when he accepted the $750k buyout. I think this is more about Indiana managing the NCAA penalties.

"Jordan Crawford and his family informed us today that he will not return to Indiana," the Indiana athletic department announced Wednesday in a release.
Crawford, a 6-foot-4 shooter from Detroit Communication and Media Arts, has been playing pickup basketball recently at UDM's Calihan Hall. Also, the Titans' new coach, Ray McCallum, is a former Indiana assistant who was Crawford's main recruiter out of high school. At the time of McCallum's hiring in April, Crawford's mother, Sylvia, expressed pleasure that UDM had hired McCallum.
Have I mentioned that this situation is breaking my freakin' heart?

I went over to the IU site to see what was going on and I kept getting pop ups asking me to try out.

Up yours buddy. They asked me first. I get to wear an "I love Bobby Knight" warmup, throw a chair every now and then, and I don't have to play against Ohio State. Oh yeah, and every now and then, I get to have my own pop up.

Find your own gig.

Crawford quits, leaving Indiana with two returning players
Guard Jordan Crawford has quit Indiana, leaving the Hoosiers facing possible NCAA sanctions with two players returning from last season.
Crawford started eight games as a freshman and averaged 9.7 points and 3.4 rebounds for the Hoosiers, whose roster has been depleted with transfers and dismissals since the departure of former coach Kelvin Sampson.

Sampson, new coach Tom Crean and other Indiana officials are scheduled to appear at an NCAA infractions committee hearing Friday in Seattle. The university already has imposed sanctions related to the allegations that Sampson and his staff made improper telephone calls to recruits.
He probably wanted to get out of there before they went in front of the infractions committee tomorrow. Don't know what he would be worried about since it won't be going to the NCAA tournament anyhow even if he had stayed.

Next year sounds like the BigTen's year in the ACC/ACC challenge

Well, we're already down 0-4 (Indiana, Northwestern, Iowa, Penn State) and it hasn't even started yet.

Someone get Delaney on the phone and tell him to cancel this charade already. We ain't beating the ACC.
