So back to the demo... Downloaded overnight and played a quick game this morning as Oregon. Why Oregon? Because the offense I have been always wanting to run in NCAA is the shotgun spread option attack.

I was pleasantly surprised by how effective this is looking!!! Just seemed clunky in previous years and because of that clunkiness, I just hated using it. In my quick trial the handoffs are much smoother and the play action out of it was equally as smooth.

I can't wait to really dive into the demo this weekend to confirm my initial feelings that in NCAA13 I can finally play the offense I have always wanted to run!!!

loving the demo. There are still some moments where a canned animation is annoying but they are much less prevalent.

The biggest thing is how most things are streamlined and less clunky. The camera views, the transitions when changing views or audibles, the animations no longer feel like a seven year old console stretched to its graphical limits.

it is hard to get a good feel for the ai on such an easy setting, but I like what I see.

The passing game (w/ Barkley) was much smoother and adjustable. The receivers caught the ball in stride and kept running, the touch was better. I will play with Kansas/Baylor to see if a lower rated QB is less accurate.

I wasn't terribly impressed with the demo, it does feel like pass protection is a little bit more reliable but everything else seemed like pretty moderate improvements. The spread which had taken some hits (again mostly due to the horrible blocking in 12) seems to be a bit more effective, option handoffs and what not did seem crisper but not tremendously improved.

I don't know wtf they are doing with the graphics though. They are trying to bring the players out of the environment to add more perspective but it looks kind of choppy and weird, particularly in the night environment (LSU-Alabama). The players were really dark on the field, it just doesn't look right at all.

The "studio updates" are so generic they are going to make people want to blow their brains out. Adding presentation is nice..but if its going to be ridiculously half assed why bother.

The few passes I attempted were impressive too. Corner routes weren't intercepted by a CB playing in the flat and what I was most impressed with was a fly route in the end zone, throwing it late didn't mean it going out of the endzone by 10+ yards, the WR stopped at the back end zone and jumped for it (he didn't catch it, but the attempt was worthwhile to me)

one thing i'm noticing, and maybe because it's on Varsity...but I'm struggling playing zone defense...it seems like everytime I have a zone called, they have a WR running a curl route right in the open space..and there is no one within 10 yds of him

I just ran the read option offense the whole game with Baylor vs KSU. It is light years ahead in terms of offense. I was able to make the reads and the first steps of the QB weren't in quick sand.

However, KSU never adapted and continued to run 3-3-5 making it terribly easy to read. I had 9 rushes for 137 yards with the QB and 10-13 passing for 140 yards. I think I only made the HB handoff twice. The only test that matters to me, is the user games. To smooth's point the other night, it has been virtually useless for years in user games.

Yeah, against users you had no chance since the handoff/option fake took forever and had NO chance to even think about dropping back for a pass.

BUT, at least it looks like it is cleaned up enough that you have a chance. Especially if you run it out of 4wide sets and have a true dual threat QB that can sling it. I know I will at least try

so according to those screen shots, Braxton Miller (the national frosh of the year) is no higher than an 86 rating (86 is the lowest on the screen and hes not on there)

Andrew Maxwell from Sparty is an 86 and he attempted a grand total of 26 passes last year

EA Ftw....their player ratings always suck

Yeah, I noticed the option read is definitely smoother, it finally feels like you can option that end properly. We'll see how the AI tweaks.

In terms of the passing game, smoother..your receivers reach out to make a lot of catches..but I almost feel like they make TOO many unreasonably difficult grabs..but they have some some to tweak that I guess
