NCAA Football 12 + Rosters

no it's not, not really close
The pass coverage is completely different, particularly the zone coverage. Last year relied on supermen warping around the field and psychic corners who made cuts in routes before the WRs.

The momentum system is completely different this year as well. Last year, defenders engaged on blocks constantly leaked off and made tackles right as you passed them. This year you can actually use blockers as blocks most of the time, slicing a foot outside them instead of needing 4-6 feet to be sure you weren't magically tackled.

But the biggest change is the momentum. They overhauled the ways an offensive player moved but it was still based in a regional animation system, meaning I could go flying around like a madman with my free safety and make the play if I was close to it.

This year, you better square up to the ball carrier and time your contact just right or the back is gone for six. This makes it a lot riskier to blitz, which makes the game a lot more realistic.

Likewise, you can finally meet a back in the hole and stand him up. Last year you would come up and fill, but the animation was rarely based on the momentum and strength of the players involved. Even worse, sometimes when you came up to support a gang tackle, your contact would sometimes trigger a 'he broke loose from 6 defenders' animation :shake:

This year, when a fellow defender stands up a ballcarrier, your second blow typically drives him to the turf.

Are there still some flaws? Sure, but the defensive gameplay is completely different.

yea, and the running is different as well, I feel the blocking is sooo much better, i've been able to run in the middle and actually move around and find holes, it's amazing i've seen downfield blocking....

If they can just change the superman LB's this will be by far their best game, that's all im asking for :(

And also, for future reference, on FK's default edits who have the duplicate number slots?
There's a way to create a player with a duplicate number. FK didn't do that at all (stock rosters with names), so I had the freedom to make Howard. Conversely, the O-S forums felt the need to create a third string LB (Grant) with that player creation trick, and once it is done you can't create any others or delete that player.
FYI guys, someone took FK's rosters and edited the coaches as well. Gamertag is CAJUN COMMISH
Bah, looks like I have to re-edit my roster heh. Thanks for the heads up, I'll add it to the first page tomorrow.

Alright, I haven't bought EA's installments since NCAA 09, which I was still playing up until last week. I know EA improved in the last two additions, but what was disappointing for me was the complete disregard of Road to Glory, my favorite mode.

Has anybody out there had time to start a RtG and if so, any improvements? Any changes? I still play the Campus Legend mode on '09 and I know RtG was pretty much the exact same on '10 and '11. I'm going to be too broke to pick up the game anytime soon but wanted to get some feedback from the board. I do like hearing about the custom playbook option, I used the custom playmaker option on NFL2k1 for Dreamcast a shit ton. I haven't been following any reviews or build up to this game so I like hearing everyone sound off, thank you all.
I'm just trying it for the first time tonight, but what has me excited is the ability to import your teambuilder team/logo/uniforms into road to glory. I think you can actually create your entire league to replay your HS days.

A guy like Cody Johnson (6' 250 lb battering ram) finally has value for short yardage plays. I can't average as many YPC as Fozzy Whittaker, but he is much more able to bowl over a safety or LB for an extra yard (where a speed back will get stonewalled).

You are correct sir. And you can have 9-12 games for your season and then there's a playoff as well. You can also change the skill of the teams you will play against (ex. great offense/good defense). You also get to play on defense as well. I don't like the camera angles and how your player movement changes when the camera angle does.

just had one of those "I hate being an OC cause defense can't fucking get a stop" type a game, lost to wiscy 45-38. Some of it was my fault, I had 3 bad INT's where I didn't see the safety, but on the flip side it didn't help that the AI allowed not 1 but 2 Kickoff return for TD's

 Basuerman went 12 for 30 for 425 yds...I think you can guess what play I used a lot (i only did it cause the AI was pissing me off with pass rush, I got sacked 5 times and had to be at least 7 passes I was hit while throwing, it was unbelievable

just had my best passing game by far, playing Illinois, Bauserman (Braxton out for season :( ) went 16 for 19 for 264 yds 4 TD 0 int

I just had my best passing game against Illinois as well. 6/8 for 200 yards and three TD's with Brax. Got Posey on long out routes three times for huge yards, only two were TD's though. I spent the rest of the game getting Boom yards.

forgot to upload an example of what i've been babbling about, but ..

here's a vid of why I love this game
http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/81739667

and here, i'm not sure if this is super LB or just bad decision NOTE: I tried to put loft on the ball
http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/81739451

LB trailing a WR then just stops as soon as I throw it

That last one is pure bullshit.

Trailing a different receiver, you had Stoney wide open...loft seemed correct, yet he supermans. Ugh. Brings back some bad, bad memories.

Bad decision. He's only 5 yds in front of the WR. I get upset when they bat down balls intended for WRs 12 yds behind him, but I think that was legitimate, especially since he was in zone.

There's definitely a complaint to be made that this game doesn't have touch passes over the middle for those situations, but within the framework of the game, that pass shouldn't be thrown.
