NCAA Championship : TSUN vs Louisville (ov/un 137.5) Mon 9:20 CBS

I realize I'm biased, but I really don't see how TSUN fans can complain about officiating (or say that it was horrendous towards both teams), considering:

- they were in the bonus at the under 12 timeout
- they were in the double bonus when Louisville wasn't even in the bonus
- total fouls were 15 called on TSUN, 22 called on Louisville (and that's taking into account TSUN intentionally fouling at the end--not sure how many this was, but I'm thinking it was 4--2 to get Louisville into the bonus, and then I think Louisville had 2 1-and-1's). Taking those out, Louisville was called for twice as many fouls as TSUN

You may complain about the lack of goaltending call in the first half, but when you look at the whole game, I don't see how it is that you aren't elated with how the refs treated your team tonight.

In my opinion, you can't just look at the numbers. If the fouls called were 30 to 4, there's a chance that the one team really did commit 30 fouls, and the other team really did commit only 4. Unless it's 4th graders against 1992's Team USA, I doubt the ratio would be 30 to 4, but it's possible.

But actually watching the game, Louisville would drive to the basket, get tackled, and there'd be no call. Turn around and at the other end of the court, a much lighter foul was called against Louisville. Call all the light fouls, or let them play through the tougher fouls - I don't care so much. Well, I think they should call the game according to the rules. (If not, why have the rules?) But more importantly, be consistent at both ends.

I think the referees missed big calls both directions. But I think Michigan benefited far more than Louisville did from the bad calls.

I agree with everything you said, and my post would've been more complete had I mentioned that Louisville's guard's were able to beat TSUN's defenders and get in the lane to the hoop all night (certainly more than TSUN's guards did). Which makes the foul ratio of 2-to-1 all the more ridiculous.

Just so you know...I happened to be listen to Mike and Mike this morning (I know, NPR was on a membership drive and I was too lazy to get out my ipod), picked up these gems

Bruce Pearl - " I was just happy that they let them play, Behanan(sp?) was a bull in a china shop, but they let them play etc etc"
Bilas (the only sane man that works for ESPiN) - "I thought the officiating was the same as its been all season bad, but at least they were consistently bad" then goes on to rant bout Bruke's probably legit block, but makes no mention of the touch fouls called against Louisville or the muggings that scUM pulled and didn't get called.

Louisville has all the talent and athleticism in the world. If Pitino taught them some fundamentals, they'd beat the Globetrotters.

LOLs at the notion that Pitino didn't coach this team up. They don't have a ton of NBA talent on that roster and won it all. Like him or not, Pitino is a helluva coach

when I watched him last night he did...he said something like "we're talking about the block shot from Burke? What about Bohannan getting absolutely mugged all game"

Good to know... I would love to see what he would say if he wasn't being paid by ESPiN or anyone. That would be a get conversation to have.

LOLs at you quoting my post and then acting as if I said something I didn't. Nowhere did I say that Pitino's not a good coach, and nowhere did I say that he didn't coach the team up.

If you don't think Louisville made some serious fundamental mistakes down the stretch, well, I'm not sure what to tell you, except the basketball forum may not be the place for you. LOLs indeed.

Riiiiight, so saying that he didn't coach them on fundamentals wasn't obviously hyperbole. That was my point, and I'm sure you got it and now try to deflect. A little less hyperbole is all anyone asks. Carry on.

I had to laugh when Pearl kept referring to NCAA basketball as "we" (regarding potential rules changes). Um, no Bruce, not for another 15 months or so. :tongue2:

The guy who claims I said two things I didn't is now accusing me of deflecting? That's rich. Then again, I get that posts like yours are just your usual schtick, so it's my fault for being surprised.

The fact of the matter is that Louisville, due to poor fundamental basketball, almost lost a game that shouldn't have even been close. That point was agreed upon by several other posters on BP.
