NCAA Championship : TSUN vs Louisville (ov/un 137.5) Mon 9:20 CBS

Just a small observation...

Spike Albrecht was like the gift and the curse. His first half with 17 points was legendary, nobody can dispute that. But it forced Beilein into the uncomfortable position of having to give him minutes in the second half. Once the game tightened up a bit, and the stars started making plays, Spike really didn't belong on the court.

Spike got absolutely destroyed on the defensive end of the court in the second half. Louisville in the second half, was getting the ball to whoever Spike was guarding and letting them take him one on one for about 10 minutes straight. I'd like to see his +/- differential, because at the end of the day, I think it was probably pretty close to even, which is almost unfathomable based on his first half.

Classic case of a scrub going on an incredibly hot/lucky run. I remember some scrub for UNC doing that back in the 90s. Eventually, it evens out. scUM had no business being in that game the final 10 minutes. Lousiville made countless boneheaded plays/decisions when they could have stepped right on their treacherous necks. scUM just couldn't take advantage.

Was it Beilein who said at halftime, "Great half of basketball! We're up by one!"

Yeah, how'd that work out for ya, coach?

That is his style, he is always positive. I love him, this team and the program. Proud of them, the better team won tonight. Can't blame the refs when you can't get a stop for 8 straight minutes.

Bingo. I think TSUN knew it was in trouble at the half when "Spike" went all MJ in the first half (not to mention Burke before picking up his second) and they still were only up 1.

I think you could make a good argument that Wichita St was the 2nd-best team in this tournament. They had this Louisville team down 12 points late in the game. UM had a relatively easy road to the title game after they upset Kansas - a lot of teams in this tournament could've beaten Florida and Syracuse.

The house always wins... eventually.

a lot of teams could have beat ohio state. UM had a solid road to the final four, some favorable match ups but it was tough sledding.

Vitale really is becoming a cartoon character--he just said that something Louisville did was able to negate the "unbelievable play of Mitch McGary." That's a lot of praise for a guy who had a whopping 6 pts, 6 boards, and 4 fouls.

No.

Wichita State was as lucky as any team could be on their run. Wichita State was as lucky as any team could be against Louisville for that matter, and still couldn't close it out. And Kevin Ware (best wing defender and 40% three point shooter) was obviously out.

There is a reason Wichita State had 9 losses going into the tournament. They played exceptionally well in the tournament, but also had a few guys who have been borderline scrubs playing way above their heads on top of some of the most beneficial officiating any team could even dream of.

I don't disagree with your point about Michigans path, but there are probably 14 teams in the country that I would expect to handle Wichita State in a 7 game, NBA type series...OSU easily being one of them.
