2025 NC OL David Sanders Jr. (Tennessee Signee)

I'm guessing it's a bargaining strategy

Yeah, I'm guessing that his strategy (and he probably has a NIL agent working it for him to) was to get Ohio State, Tennessee, and any other school interested in signing him into a NIL bidding war and apparently they have succeeded.

It's even possible that Tennessee has the high offer and Ohio State isn't willing to top it; however, they're creating the impression at Tennessee that Ohio State has and gets Tennessee to still increase their offer (i.e. Tennessee could even be bidding against themselves).

Despite missing out on Sanders, Ohio State still signed 26 players on Wednesday and Thursday, putting together a class that’s ranked fifth in 247Sports’ composite rankings. Only three of those players, however, are offensive linemen – Carter Lowe, Jayvon McFadden and Jake Cook – and the Buckeyes aren’t expected to sign any more players during the early signing period.

Ryan Day acknowledged that the Buckeyes are going to have to look to add more talent on their offensive line, suggesting that they will be aggressive in pursuing offensive linemen in the transfer portal.

“That's the one area there that I feel like we got to make sure that we're going to be moving forward into the next few weeks addressing. We have to do that,” Day said Wednesday. “I think Jayvon is really going to give us something at tackle. Carter's a swing guy. Jake's a local guy. All three of those guys we feel great about. But at the end of the day, we got to make sure we have the numbers that we need, making sure we have the depth that we need.

“In today's day and age, it's a little bit different on how you put the roster together. It's not just about the high school guys and recruiting. You have to make sure that you have your numbers and you have your depth. So whether it's through retention or maybe a guy in the portal here or there, that's what it's going to come down to.”

Well, Ryan, you might want to add/consider that one's gotta take that depth, and prepare them to step in at anytime. If you look at the roster, tOSU has plenty of depth. When a 'project' is taken, doesn't that delay the 2-3 years that it takes to make a mature OLer? While tOSU might save NIL $ on a project, it means the 'ready-to-play' depth is lacking. Unless Coach Mick has been slipping, then Frye (or his assistant OL coach(s)) must be held accountable. tOSU has lost out on alot of 'quick fix' guys, so let's hope that the cream of the Ohio OL guys join up. Go Bucks!

Zero doubt we went all in on this one... I'd just as soon delete the thread... tired of this one...
We definitely went all in here. The frustration is that process is not working out on any OOS top OL targets and putting all our eggs in one basket. But we all need to move on and focus on the portal. Signing day is over and bemoaning over it doesn't change what happened. This is a topic for the Frye/Kelly/Day threads at this point in terms of OL recruiting strategy.
