NBC Comedy: The Office, Parks & Recreation, 30 Rock, Community

After some pretty mediocre outings before it, Ferrell really stepped it up l last night. Gabe even had a few comedic lines.

Dwight's been bringing it the last month or so. Jim and Pam....not so much.
that is because they still think their biggest prankster should be mired in awkward silence as he struggles with leadership politics.

It wasn't funny as the no 2, co manager and it still isn't funny now.

If I wanted awkward silence, I would watch Saturday night live.

After actually watching and enjoying Michael's final episode, I decided to check out what "life after Michael" would be like. Wasn't impressed. Still going the slap-sticky route, they've ruined some of the characters and the dynamic between the characters that made it so great early on. I'll go back to watching just 'Community' and my DVR'd 'Deadliest Catch' on Thursday nights. Like I said, I doubt it makes it long without Carrell unless they make a splashy hire to replace him. This seems to indicate that is true:

Side note: I am amazed that 'Outsourced' is still airing. We watched the first two episodes and it was unbearable, my IMO.

You can watch Parks and Rec. Ron Swanson is one of the best characters on TV.

look at the ratings for NBC's other shows. The Office new episode still did double the ratings of a new Community, and almost double of a new Parks and Rec and the season finale of 30 Rock.

If they want to cry about being #4, then they better go out and get some different shows. Nothing is going to compete with American Idol

'The Office' will always be their top show because it's an easily accessible show. 'Community', on the other hand, is a show that has subtle, smart humor and actually requires a brain to enjoy...something 75% of the American public lacks. It's similar to 'Arrested Development' in that way...a critical darling with mediocre ratings. I just hope it doesn't suffer a similar fate. It's the type of show that will never make it on a mainstream network. It should be on a cable station where it's cult following will follow it and it doesn't have to be concerned about the ratings game. I've never watched '30 Rock' or 'Parks and Rec', and it's astounding to me that 'Outsourced' is still on....that show is horribly stupid. Did it get renewed for a 2nd season?

The Office's ratings are dropping, though, and losing Carrell is going to hurt. He was the draw, so they need to make a splash or else I suspect more and more people will tune out. I know they're bringing in Carey, Spader (who is really underrated) and Will Arnett (who would be PERFECT, my IMO) for the end of the season...Carey obviously isn't an option, Spader and/or Arnett would be interesting choices, but who knows. The quality of that show has been declining steadily for years and that's with Carrell. I used to be a hardcore fan, and I gave up watching two months ago. Maybe they can turn it around, but I doubt it.

've never watched '30 Rock' or 'Parks and Rec',
too bad, because only in its prime did The Office compete with 30 Rock as a comedy.

Parks is pretty good as well. Swanson is hilarious and like Community and the initial office seasons, it has a deep set of quality characters. I am still convinced they took the best writers from The Office, as that show has never been the same since Parks came out, ehich was made by the same people.

I've been baffled by that as well, particularly with how great their other comedies are.

My wife can't understand how you can make a show about juvenile prank gifts and not stumble blindly into laughs.

I know a lot of people that like it as well, but I've had trouble getting into it. Probably because I've only watched it sporadically and don't really know the characters. I'll probably rent the dvds at some point when I find the time because I do really like Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan.

Same as above.

I watched the first two and my wife watched a couple additional ones. I found the first two insultingly bad and the wife said it actually got worse. I don't think I laughed once in the 44 minutes I saw.
