NBC Comedy: The Office, Parks & Recreation, 30 Rock, Community

I just remembered the Jim and Pam wedding where they completely ripped off a crappy YouTube video for an entire portion of the show.

The writers have been getting worse and worse since mid season 3, and this year they are just horrible.

Finally watched this past week's episode on DVR. Horrible, okay maybe not horrible, but a far cry from anything good. I'm not sure what is going on, but several shows (including Modern Family) are blowing it out of the water. They had better step it up or wrap it up before it goes down like the Titanic.

Didn't she have the baby last season and then told Michael that it wasn't his because she went and got inseminated? Or did she get pregnant again?

I think you're right. She gave birth without telling him, and showed up with the baby (Astrid) to the shower they were hosting for her at Dunder Mifflin. It was when Michael started dating Holly, the new H.R. rep. I just remember Dwight giving the stroller the various tests for durability, including pulling it behind his car and throwing it over a fence.

NFBuck brings up a good point--what happened since then? I don't know if she has been in any episodes after that, but it was a pretty major part of the show to just sweep under the rug.

...and that's the problem. I completely forgot all that other stuff. It's like the writers have ADHD.

Really? What interactions are better, Pam babying/mocking Michael and messing with Dwight, or the receptionist stuck in a never-ending, crazy smile and going along with everything dwight says like a robot?

I guess you're saying that doing nothing takes away from the show, and I'm saying that doing nothing does nothing for the show. She does nothing - she isn't funny (other than throwing scissors at Michael). To me, that means she doesn't add to the show. They don't seem to be spending much time with her character, so she isn't taking many lines away from anyone else. The time they DO give her seem to be on this pathetically retarded thing with Andy, and I guess that DOES take away from the show. But, in my opinion, what else is going on in the show? The Jim and Pam marriage and pregnancy thing has been lame. Dwight has been trying to get Jim fired, and that hasn't been funny. Ryan said he wanted in, but nothing has come from that. What other storylines are there? Getting bought out by "Sabruh" has potential, but nothing yet. And Pam hasn't done anything good since she was put into sales.

We agree that Pam was the better receptionist, and the new girl (Erin?) doesn't do crap for the show. I just think that "not doing anything" is the same as "not adding anything".

The writers of this show are stuck in this repetitive, time-wasting cycle on every episode. Barely anything new comes out, it just seems like they stall around for 30 minutes and rely on the reputation they have built in the past rather than push forward with something new. Its frustrating to watch.

i feel your pain....when they had the episode of toby interviewing that one guy the whole time showing flashbacks the entire episode, i nearly shot myself. huge waist of 30 minutes.

Depends on your point of view. In my mind, she's taking lines away from Stanley, Kevin, Creed and even Toby...all terrific characters when used. One of the strengths when the show was good was that it felt more like an ensemble cast. When was the last time Phyllis had a line? I can't even remember the last time the warehouse guys (Darryl was one of the funniest characters on the show) made an appearance. They're wasting their time on inane storylines, and the worst part is, they're half assing those. Truth be told, if it doesn't get better, I probably won't watch next season. The current direction just doesn't interest me in the least.

Agreed, but I was talking specifically about the new receptionist. (Is her name Erin? Who cares?) Her nothingness is taking time away from the other characters, but they aren't really doing anything with the little time they have, anyway. Maybe they need more time - I don't know.

But this is a stupid argument. I really hope they get their butts in gear and get funny again.

I did't think the flashback episode was THAT bad. I mean yeah it wasn't the best of the season. I thought it was a decent episode to come back from holiday break as a refresher. However, I don't like this path they are taking with the new CEO in whats her face. I just don't see her adding anything to the show.

Maybe NBC will give 30 rock to Jimmy fallon and hire Tyler Perry as the new star of community. Or they could let all 4 go to CBS to thrive .

Just when you think they've hit the bottom, they find a way to suck a little more water out of the pool.

What a sad trainwreck NBC continues to be.

we all have access to youtube. Wasting 95% of an episode running clips is very weak sauce

a refresher would have been recapping the Andy courtship, the marriage, Michael and Pam's mom, Ryan joining Dwight in a quest to oust Jim.

That was simply a clip show from half a decade of episodes.
