NBA Finals - Celtics vs. Lakers

looks like the Lakers have to beat the Celtics and the refs tonight

I guess that's easier than accepting that maybe, yet again, you underestimated the Celtics. :roll2:

I never underestimated anyone, if you look at my preview, I said I thought the Celtics would win, hell, I have been saying all year that odds are the Celtics would be holding the title. Hell, you can even look at my NBA picks.

Just can't click on offense right now, turnovers isn't helping with trying to cut the lead. Looks bad but the series will turn, which the games looks in favor of Boston but 2 quartes still left to play.

Yep, it couldn't possibly have anything to do with Boston's defense. I mean, sure the Celtics lead the league in defense in the playoffs (and were second during the season), everybody knows they can't play defense. After all, didn't we all see the Atlanta series?

I wasn't quoting you, so I'm not sure why you're responding to my "underestimated" comment.

I was talking to the guy who has been calling the Celts "frauds" since the Cleveland series and has an excuse (usually, "the refs") every time they win another game.

A lot of those fouls are non-fouls on the Celtics. That's my gripe. Lots of ticky tacky stuff being called on LA. I don't mind if that stuff is being called as long as it's consistent. Look at the end of the half as an example. Gasol got mugged and no call.

Horrible game so far for these refs.

19-2 foul shot advantage. Biggest story of the game so far.

While the fouls are annoying, it's hardly the reason for this happening. Granted, it's not a big help, the home team always gets the calls, Yeah, I have seen a few where I went "what the hell?" but I try to see it from the other side. I remember the Utah series, where boozer would foul out every game in LA, yet have 2 fouls in Utah, it's just the reality of the game, the refs, even though they are impartial, get caugh up in the energy and emotion of the game.

The real issue with this game is that the Lakers can't get get shots from the outside. Look, the Celtics are going to sit in the zone and just double Kobe until they give them a reason not to, and so far in this series, they haven't. So Boson is just going to clog the paint, taking away the high percentage shots. KG can make that fade away all day, so the zone isn't going to work for the Lakers.

while the East wasn't as deep with good teams as the west...i believe that boston, detroit and cleveland were the top 3 defensive teams in the NBA...east got called bad all year but maybe the west is a tad overrated...deeper yes...but the top teams in the east are very good....and i don't want to hear kobe just missed shots tonight...this is 4 straight games against boston where he has struggled

You're taking your shots at Lakers fans, last I checked, I was the primary one here who starts the Lakers thread, so If figured you should get a few at me too.

Everyones opinion of the Celtics is based on one thing, that's the first series, you want to say "look look I was right?" then go for it, but how can you expect people to guess otherwise. The Celtics are an older team, they looked like they ran out of gas. There's a reason the "experts" all picked the Lakers, and the bookies all picked the Celtics.

Barring a major collapse the last 8 minutes of the game, all that has happened so far is the Celtics have held serve. Now it'll be up to the Lakers to make it a series when they get back to LA. With the 2-3-2 format, Finals can swing and have done so in the past.

That said, as a Celts fan I'm damn glad to be up 2-0 going west. :)

really i will be thrilled if boston can get 1 in la and come home for games 6 and 7....if they get 2 then that is great...but they really need to win one of the three in LA..i just don't see LA beating boston 4 times in the next 5 games

It's not about "look, I was right". Hell, the series isn't even over.

What baffles me is how "everyone" ignored the entire regular season AND two more playoff series wins after the Atlanta series, and focused only on the Atlanta series to draw conclusions about Boston. It didn't make any sense to me before this series, and I said so then, and it doesn't make sense now.

Maybe 100+ games are more of a trend than a couple poor ones a month ago in Atlanta?

This is starting to remind me of game five versus Detroit. Boston almost pissed away a big lead in the 4th quarter of that one, seemingly taking their foot off the gas before it was over.

Still plenty of time left with the 24 second shot clock.
