I didn't want the Lakers to lose Russell either. I wish they could unload Deng's insane deal as well, but no trade partner is that crazy.

And I'm still waiting on Jim Buss' timeline to become competitive.

By the way, it's not just the contracts. It's the personalities of this league- players, teams, owners, writers. The off-season is just hilarious.

Here we have our own Evan Turner contemplating if Porzingis could be given up for a booty call with an ex.


Here we have two teams joking about a trade, only to have a trade actually develop between them.


Dwight also asked for trade advice 5 minutes before being traded.

Patrick Beverly of the Rockets thought it would be dope to "come home" [to Chicago]


His teammate Sam Dekker had other thoughts.


I mean, for entertainment, the league does great to just let people be people. The Emoji offseason last year, 2 years ago? Hilarious. Blake Griffin joking about having DeAndre Jordan locked in his home until he signed a contract. Reports of Mark Cuban driving around Dallas trying to find him.

I'd actually have a lot more respect for it if it just did what the WWF did in the nineties and stopped pretending it was a legitimate sport.

They sort of have in some ways. The league hasn't, but just watching the playoff games I did, JVG doing commentary alluded to all kinds of things, from the same players getting all of the calls to traveling being ignored to the complete lack of parity in the super team era. It's out there, but, like WWE, it still sells plenty

Yeah, I suppose so.

I guess I'm just a bitter, middle-aged suburbanite that is pissed that a game/league I once loved has been taken over by a fucking clown-show. The NBA of the eighties through the late nineties was unbelievably awesome. Now...it's on par with pro rasslin'.

I mean, set aside the absurdity of the officiating, the sloppy play, the shit head personalities...the salaries these douchebags are earning are fucking insulting. I read that James Harden is set to sign a four year extension that will pay him north of $40M a year. Forty MILLION dollars a year to PLAY A FUCKING GAME. Get the fuck out of here. Even total scrubs that barely average 10 minutes a game can easily earn eight figures a year. It's lunacy.

Yeah, and the funny thing is not that long ago it was baseball that had the most ridiculous salaries. I remember SI even had a cover and story showing what every player made, it was ZOMG the backup catcher makes 3 mil a year!!! Now fucking Chuck Nevitt would make 20 mil to hold down the bench. It's unreal.

And I too grew up glued to TNT in the 80s

It used to be a rivalry-driven league. Even when the Bulls were dominating, you still had great rivalries that kept you interested even if you knew who was going to win. Lakers-Celtics, Cavs-Bulls, Pistons-Bulls, Knicks-Pacers, Knicks-Bulls, Sonics-Lakers, Blazers-Sonics, Bird-Magic, Jordan-Everybody. You had great, hard-nosed teams like the Bad Boys, Pacers and the gritty 90's-era Knicks. Now, it's just about what team can buy up the best players and twitter pissing matches.
