NBA Discussion (Official Thread)

I love how ESPN is throwing up breaking news that Westbrook has earned an average of a season triple double. Second player ever to do it. They aren't saying that he did it in the third quarter of a game as his team was getting destroyed by one of the worst teams in the league. Yeah Westbrook, your team sucks and you've got no shot at a title, but you padded your stats enough to make the history books.

Adrian Wojnarowski‏ @WojVerticalNBA

Knicks center Joakim Noah needs surgery for a torn left rotator cuff, league sources tell @TheVertical. Four to six months of rehab coming.

After signing with Knicks, Noah underwent knee scope and still faces balance of drug suspension next season. Three years, $54M left on deal.
That new cap is going to bankrupt some of these teams.

Stop me if you've heard this before: Blake Griffin was injured last night and will miss the remainder of the playoffs.

Golden State's cruise to the conference finals just got even easier.

Checked in with some folks in Europe this morning. They seem unaware that Golden State became "world champions" last night, as opposed to say NBA champions.

Not saying Americentrism isn't a real thing, but the notion that, on the whole, the best players in the world are not in the NBA is, quite simply, naive.

When I actually say that, you can call me naive and we'll discuss it.

I particularly like when the Super Bowl is done, and we go on about "world champions" in a sport 90% or more of it doesn't even play. What I don't understand is why the 2015 Buckeyes weren't "world" champions. After all, it would be "naive" to suggest the best college football players don't reside in America, would it not?

But I do wonder if cricket champions in Asia or Aussie Rules football champions refer to themselves as "world" champions. After all, it's not like any team here is going to beat them. Then again, maybe the "world" doesn't actually give a shit about that any more than they do about the Golden State Warriors.

Actually, I never called you naive. You may want to look into brushing up on those old reading skills.

I'm pretty astounded that the folks you checked in with care at all. I, for one, couldn't care less whether the cricket champions in Asia call themselves the world champs--first, I don't care about cricket, and second, they may be (probably are?) the best in the world. Which is my point--the folks you checked in with seem to care that the Warriors are calling themselves world champs, and those folks seem to be taking issue with a proposition that is likely correct.

I'll posit the blowouts are due to the rise in 3 pointers. While being the better value shot, there's still so much variability in it. When you have teams that can get hot and hit 20 (Warriors, Cavs, Rockets, Spurs) and another team is cold, games get out of hand fast. It is what it is. These players are just really really good and can really really shoot. The Warriors just have a ridiculous amount of talent right now. That part is what sucks. I think as kids and coaches adjust, the game will level out- as much as it can. The NBA has always been a dynasty league.

I hate the Warriors but they play some of the best basketball ever- their passing is amazing. Cavs when they don't get bogged down are great too. Everyone knows the Spurs execute better than just about any team.
