Navy 48 - Pitt 45 (Final, 2OT)

starBUCKS

BPCFFB League #2 League Champion 2008 & 2010
Pitt vs Navy

Wannstedt is a terrible coach. 4th and goal on the two and he trys to throw a jump ball in the corner of the end zone. All he needed was a FG to tie and he threw for it after Shady McCoy was having a huge game. What an idiot, I would have lined up and tried to draw Navy off sides. Then just kicked after taking the penalty.

AS bad as it is, I actually agreed with Lou HOLTSTHTHTH.....

If you are going to go for it on 4th down, run the ball on 3rd down.

Hell the kid just got the ball down to the 2 from the 9 on 2nd down with a run. Navy was tired on defense and I seriously doubt that they would have been able to stop the Pitt RB (I can't remember his name but he played a good game tonight) 2 times inside the 2.

Don't know if anybody was watching this one, but it was an entertaining game. In the second and final OT, Dave Wannstedt just one-upped Dennis Franchione for the title of worst college football coach.

Down three points, Pitt was marching toward the goal line and had the ball 2nd & goal at the three yard line. After LeSean McCoy got stuffed for just a one yard gain, Pitt calls a pass play that went incomplete. After that they called a timeout and then decided to GO FOR IT on 4th down (at home, against what should be a physically inferior opponent) and threw a freakin' fade that was broken up and incomplete. Not only did they not take the easy FG to tie the game, but they didn't even give the best player on the field (for either team) a chance to touch the ball with the game on the line.

This guy is just horrible.

Looks like we were thinking along the same lines - you got your post up while I was writing mine.

LOL... Ya, that pretty much sums up why Wannstedt isn't coaching in the NFL anymore. That stuff wouldn't fly at a reputable program either. What did he think he had Larry Fitzgerald or Antonio Bryant...

Not only was McCoy killing Navy, they threw a fade to a 6 foot tall WR. Good call Dave, good call.

Wannstedt tried an onside kick to begin the game at UVA. Judging by the replay I saw it looks as though he failed to inform half his coverage team of his little strategy, because they started sprinting down the field and accidentally touched it early. Oops.

In the first half of that game, Pitt had four offensive series, faced five different situations of 2nd or 3rd down and double digit yardage to go (generally considered a passing down), and called a running play every time. Naturally, they ended up down by 23 at halftime.

Navy is an undersized team. Always are. Their starting DE's are listed at 251 and 239 pounds. Uh, you can run on them.

The 'Stache had one-upped Coach Fran at least ten years ago while he was destroying a proud Bears franchise. It took Chicago nearly a decade to recover. Inexplicably, after wrecking one NFL franchise, he was given the keys to another, and proceeds to do the exact same damn thing. Exit stage right.

So Wannstedt lands at the alma mater, Pittsburgh, and what's the first sign of his coaching? Tyler Palko, who looked primed for a breakout season after two years with Walt Harris, regresses right from Game 1. Does this sound familiar to Bears or Dolphins fans? The 'Stache inherited Palko, Greg Lee, and the rest of a squad that had just played in a BCS bowl, and they actually went to Ohio U and lost! Were they beat soundly by Solich? No. They lost to Ohio U after Palko threw two pick-6s to OU's Dion Byrum because -- and Wannstedt admitted it later -- the coaches didn't realize that certain formations and plays wouldn't work due to the wider college hashmarks.

And this guy is a coach?

I LOVE watching Navy football.

Those guys aren't going to the NFL, practice comes #2 to school and duty...

And straight wishbone for 60 minutes? Awesome. Glad to see them win.

No doubt. I love the wishbone. When it is polished up and run right, tough as hell...

Navy will beat ND.
