The 'Stache had one-upped Coach Fran at least ten years ago while he was destroying a proud Bears franchise. It took Chicago nearly a decade to recover. Inexplicably, after wrecking one NFL franchise, he was given the keys to another, and proceeds to do the exact same damn thing. Exit stage right.
So Wannstedt lands at the alma mater, Pittsburgh, and what's the first sign of his coaching? Tyler Palko, who looked primed for a breakout season after two years with Walt Harris, regresses right from Game 1. Does this sound familiar to Bears or Dolphins fans? The 'Stache inherited Palko, Greg Lee, and the rest of a squad that had just played in a BCS bowl, and they actually went to Ohio U and lost! Were they beat soundly by Solich? No. They lost to Ohio U after Palko threw two pick-6s to OU's Dion Byrum because -- and Wannstedt admitted it later -- the coaches didn't realize that certain formations and plays wouldn't work due to the wider college hashmarks.
And this guy is a coach?
