You're right on the money here. The QB! But JT has to have complete trust in that QB to turn him loose. Problem here is that JT doesn't have an amazing defense this year to fall back on in the event that he doesn't fully trust in his young QB yet. So really, he has no choice but to free TP and see how far it takes us.

BINGO. And TP has that talent to take over a game. He is young and will make a few mistakes, but as you said, there isnt much choice. I mean the D is not terrible by any means. Last week was the first game, you are gonna have jitters, people out of position, etc. But when the score was 29-14, he sat on the lead immediately. The game could have been 43-14 easily......but backing off let Navy right back in it. Coaching decision, nothing to do with the team.

Cut and Past from the Navy Board:

Just got back from Columbus, and I couldn't agree more. Best atmosphere for a sporting event, I've ever attended. Unbelievable stadium and crowd. Complete hospitality from the home crowd, not a bad word before or after the event. We were invited into multiple tailgaters and had to tear ourselves away to not feel like a mooch. OSU got a new fan in me. I hope they take it to USC next week.

Arrived home from Columbus an hour ago. Sorry I'm not the first on this thread. We had a group of 7 who traveled to Columbus Friday. Out to dinner Fri. nite at the Columbus Brewing Co. w/ Navy t-shirts on. We were continuously welcomed by families, OSU grads etc. wishing us well. We were impressed. The hospitality was genuine and universal all weekend.

After the game we went to the "hineygate" replacement tailgate and were inundated with the ...."wow, you guys sure put a scare on us", nice game etc, etc. Can only imagine how things might have changed if we'd finished the job and won! Truely, we were overwhelmed by the magnitude of the "buckeye nation experience" and the friendliness of the people we met this weekend!!!

Absolutely phenomenal experience. There was tribute after tribute to Navy and all service people throughout the game.

I don't know about other grads who were there, but I had a hard time keeping it together with the half time playing of the Navy Hymn by the OSU band. Good thing I had sunglasses on.

What a gracious welcome and electric atmosphere for college football. Jim Tressel was apparently the architect for much of what occurred. Count me as a big OSU and Tressel fan and I hope they take it to USC.

BN will be very happy to have another customer. Going for FGs has been a major complaint of your sorts. Now it is bad.

I just got done rewatching most of the Navy game. Things I saw.

Russell was extremely late to react on the first QB draw (navy touchdown)

There was no sign of a pitch to his side of the field, and the lead blocker got to him before he moved an inch. I don't think him getting beaten in coverage needs to have further discussion, but obviously Carroll will see that.

Boom does a pretty good job running off tackle. He appears to be a lot quicker this year, much more burst than what we've previously seen.

Looking at our offensive line from Pryor's draw with 3:34 in the 1st Qtr - our Oline seems to be better at pass protection than run blocking. Brewster held is own, Miller drove his man back and anybody who didnt have a blocker moved to the second level with decent speed. That was nice to see.


However another pass play I want to point out was in the 2nd Qtr with 10:12 remaining.

Navy's SDE is lined up wide, and their WLB is coming in on a blitz. Our TE (Ballard?) goes out on his route, however the Oline doesn't recognize the blitz at all - fortunately Pryor steps up well before the rush gets there and delivers. But still, he came off the edge without so much as a glance from our Oline.


Finally. Goal line 2nd qtr 9:08 remaining. I believe it was Shugarts @ LT (76)
He drove his man back along with Boren (65) that was nice to see, the guard pulled pretty well but the right side of the line had issues one on one with that play.

Gibson is a monster, that 1st fumble he forced was run down from the back end of the play and he got there in a freakin' hurry. He tackles with serious authority too.


Pryor does much better with the option in comparison to last year. He holds the defender much longer until the back is free. Great timing, nice to see.



That's just a couple things I saw I wanted to point out, I've been mulling over the game in my head since the second it ended.

I loved the fact that JT went for it on 4th and 2... go for the jugglar, you've got a chance to bury Navy and I agree with the decision.

The play-call however, was puzzling. Why take it out of Pryor's hands? Have him follow behind Boren and Brewster and we probably would've put the game away right then and there.

I neither liked nor disliked the choice to go for it...but it wasn't a choice to go for the jugular. Kicking the FG would have done that and made any comeback thoughts go away. So I think your reasoning is not sound.

More than likely, the staff made the decision to go for it to see what they had in their team and specifically in their OL. That is also likely why they didn't take the "easy way out" by giving it to Pryor and letting him get the first down. That seems to be the logic behind the decision and I'm sure they learned some things about their team from that play....along with every other play run Saturday.

I liked the decision for one reason; Pryor took control and to me that shows great leadership and confidence.
It reminded me of when Rex Kern did the same to Woody and established himself as the absolute team leader. Except Kern kicked the whole punt team off the field. :tongue2:
