I can't wait for the 1st lawsuit over this. All this did was create another can of worms to deal with, imoRoss Dellenger explained it like this on BTN yesterday, paraphrasing.
Think of the benefits athletes get as being in 3 buckets:
1 - the traditional ‘scholarship’ bucket.
2 - the NIL bucket that’s been around for about 4 years where a collective makes payments.
3 - the new bucket where the school pays the athletes directly (with an all-sports limit of $20.5 million for the year starting on July 1, 2025).
How the collectives function is somewhat TBD, they may continue in a similar way to what they’ve been doing or they may be rolled into what the schools will be doing with the new bucket. Where tOSU is heading is discussed on the previous page.
There will also be a new non-NCAA ‘enforcement’ entity called the CSC (College Sports Commission), which will monitor the distribution of the $2.8 Billion House settlement to athletes from 2016 thru 2024, and to monitor NIL deals; the athletes will be required to report any deal above $600, and the CSC is also supposed to ensure that athletes are getting NIL money for a “valid business purpose” at “fair market value”.
Yep, more arbitrary rules that they shouldn't even be allowed to enforce. Until they stop kicking the can down the road, it's gonna be more of the same.I can't wait for the 1st lawsuit over this. All this did was create another can of worms to deal with, imo
More free market, for profit business acumen will enter the room currently only occupied by universities and the NCAA, for one thing.I shudder to imagine what happens when private equity enters the conversation.
This is HUGE, since OSu is one of the few teams who doesn't rely mainly on transfers to fill the roster. Plug holes with talent in specific areas is one thing. But relying on the Portal to build your roster will be that much more difficult
Trust the coaches.Birm posted an article basically saying he thinks OSU may not be having the smoothest transition when it comes to NIL and recruiting, and that they may be falling behind in terms of compensating recruits after the new rule changes. Seems like he's frustrated that OSU refuses to pay the big time recruits big time money.
He posted a link to the article from buckeye huddle on his X account, but looks like he has since taken it down.
So far, absolutely! I like Days approach. If the time comes to adjust that then we'll see.Trust the coaches.
