Oh, they mad.
Spent some time yesterday and this morning speaking with friends/colleagues at Ohio State. It looks like President Ted Carter was aligned with Ryan Day on the need to be more aggressive with NIL. Together, they approached the Board and it was quickly found that almost everyone was on the same page. President Carter insisted on taking the extra time and steps with Compliance before the run we have seen over the past month. At the same time, and recognizing his current positioning, Gene Smith agreed. After the actual approach was ironed out, Ryan Day was unleashed.
The NIL collectives have been asking for this, so both The 1870 Society and The Collective were fully onboard. Both collectives saw massive increases in donations - both in dollars and volume. There was also an uptick in those who were already contributing, but wanted to give even more.
It was made clear that the money from the collectives is good, it is above board, and will be distributed based on legally binding language in contracts and in compliance with current rules. Even more exciting - I was explicitly told both collectives are proud of what they have accomplished, but everyone feels like they have not even reached their full potential. There is more out there to get, and if Ohio State wants someone, they will not be at a disadvantage when it comes to NIL. This doesn't mean that players will not take less money to play at Ohio State, but it does mean that Ohio State will continue to piss off those who have been playing this game for a long time - because Columbus has caught up.
Expect more boomage. Nothing imminent that I've been made aware of, but Ohio State, Ryan Day, and the staff are looking for OL and LB. Luke Montgomery is expected to make a jump this year and I wouldn't be surprised to see him force his way into the starting lineup. Still, if there is a clear upgrade available via the portal and there is mutual interest - Ohio State will remain aggressive in their approach.
That’s music to my ears! And shows that both collectives are strong, but didn’t seem to be on the same page as the administration. At this point, both collectives are strong, it’s just a personal preference of which one you choose to donate to.2024 OHIO STATE Transfer Portal (Part 36)

Excellent. I'm glad we're getting caught up here. Makes a lot of sense with recent news, adding a viable NIL approach is deadly.2024 OHIO STATE Transfer Portal (Part 36)

Just an FYI…1870 is a for profit business, while The Foundation is non-profit. The board of 1870 is three dudes no one knows and has no apparent connection with OSU athletics. The board of The Foundation is Urban Meyer, Troy Smith, Santonio Holmes, Cardale Jones, JT Barrett, Terry McLaurin, Mike Conley, Evan Turner, D’Angelo Russell, Ronnie Stokes, and the Schottenstein family.….it’s just a personal preference of which one you choose to donate to.
Yes, but 1870 is the preference of Gene Smith and the actual OSU athletics department. So that’s where their big names come fromJust an FYI…1870 is a for profit business, while The Foundation is non-profit. Wonder if the fact Gene Smith is in lame duck stage had any impact on the sudden aggressiveness with NIL too.Yes, but 1870 is the preference of Gene Smith and the actual OSU athletics department. So that’s where their big names come from

Either way, both collectives have stepped up, and im hoping this is a positive sign going forward. Sucks that it took 3 straight losses to scUM and the worst offensive performance in years to get us here. But it seems like OSU is coming after the CFB crown
I think after the 2 losses to end the season, Smith along with Day finally had the balls to go to the collectives and unleash the full fury of the OSU financial base(with full backing from the president and compliance department). Smith stopped dipping his pinky toe into the NIL pool, and decided to do a belly flop in thereWonder if the fact Gene Smith is in lame duck stage had any impact on the sudden aggressiveness with NIL too.

Mean Gene has been bouncing around a bit, but I hope most understand the tax significance, verified by your link. If you send $1000 to 1870, you are out $1000. If you send $1000 to The Foundation, you are out $650.Yes, but 1870 is the preference of Gene Smith and the actual OSU athletics department. So that’s where their big names come from
