Cheryl M. Mewborn, 42, has been suspended from her teaching duties at Bryant Elementary School in Cobb County, Georgia. Miss Mewborn, who is white, gave her mostly black students a little lecture about how they shouldn't call each other 'n_gger' and in so doing pronounced the forbidden syllables herself. Black parents raised an outcry, and Miss Mewborn will be out of the classroom until school authorities complete an investigation."
I think we have a winnerI want the word M*ch*g*n banned too. I find it very offensive...

I bet those black parents are the same ones that think that whites can't teach African-American history. No worse than some educators here on this board that think it's OK to call gay guys "Homos"...StooGrimson;727420; said:I have no absolutely sympathy for her. Any teacher who thinks they wouldn't get blasted or worse for using that word in the classroom (regardless of the context) without first consulting the administration is dumb as hell. If she's that stupid, I doubt she was much of an educator.
So, addressing the public usage of a word--regardless of its vileness--is too touchy of a subject to be addressed in school, but we can teach sex education and distribute free condoms to middle schoolers. Right...Thump;727428; said:Agree, too touchy of a subject to address in schools these days.

StooGrimson;728444; said:No. I'm suggesting she's a complete dumbass and lousy excuse for a teacher for not using common basic sense. Someone that stupid shouldn't be teaching children.
JoJaBuckeye;728451; said:I will grant you it may have been inappropriate for her to use the term. But not necessarily so, and not beyond the realm of reason. That said, the use of the term by the students and the apparently bad parenting is far worse.
It's amazing that when bad behavior MUST be addressed, and in this the teacher had no choice, we remove to assessing the response and fail to focus on the bad behavior that demanded a response in the first place.
The two parents and a community activist responded by demanding that this woman NEVER teach again. Clearly their position was an over reaction to the supposed "crime."
And let's face it...if she had been black herself, this would never have made the media. She is a WHITE person who uttered the term, and that is the sole objection here. That is what makes the parents' position RACIST.
I never get tired of the "If they weren't white..." argument. What next, more ridiculous (and baseless) complaints about white comedians not being allowed to make fun of other races?MililaniBuckeye;728335; said:So, addressing the public usage of a word--regardless of its vileness--is too touchy of a subject to be addressed in school, but we can teach sex education and distribute free condoms to middle schoolers.
