Texas Mayor Singles Out N-Word for Ban

Wednesday, January 24, 2007
By Sara Bonisteel
It's one of the most reviled words in the English language, but if one Texas mayor gets his way, getting caught uttering the "N-word" will hit offenders where it hurts.
Mayor Ken Corley of Brazoria, Texas, has proposed a city ordinance that would make using the word in an offensive fashion a crime equal to disturbing the peace and punishable by a fine of up to $500.
"I would like to, if possible, ban all racial slurs," Corley told FOXNews.com. "We chose this word because it's the most controversial issue throughout the United States today." continued...

I think what this bland, idiotic, lifeless excuse for mortality and mayoralty means is, the n word will be banned and will trigger a fine when spoken by white people.

Exactly, are African-American people going to get fined for saying it as well? A police officer hears African-American person A calling African-American person B the "n word"...will he issue a citation to them for saying the word?...like it was said above, opening up a can of worms

Banning "all racial slurs" would entail a prety long list of words, and who would get to decide which words constitute a slur? While he's at it, why doesn't he ban all words that might offend someone or hurt their self-esteem?

Well...if so, that would certainly make the basketball courts available down at the city park, eh?

Lobotomies...?

Well maybe not that

Think of other things people do that the government would like to get their hands on....

Fast food for instance.

What you can buy at grocery stores is another....

ETA: I've worked for the government for nearly 10 years as a contractor and my Dad has for nearly 40. Believe me we don't want some of those people controlling aspects of our lives.....

Never mind where this is leading. It's already there.

Cheryl M. Mewborn, 42, has been suspended from her teaching duties at Bryant Elementary School in Cobb County, Georgia. Miss Mewborn, who is white, gave her mostly black students a little lecture about how they shouldn't call each other 'n_gger' and in so doing pronounced the forbidden syllables herself. Black parents raised an outcry, and Miss Mewborn will be out of the classroom until school authorities complete an investigation."
