I have no absolutely sympathy for her. Any teacher who thinks they wouldn't get blasted or worse for using that word in the classroom (regardless of the context) without first consulting the administration is dumb as hell. If she's that stupid, I doubt she was much of an educator.

You're right.

That's something that needs to come from the school system administrators anyway. The moment those students leave her classroom they'll do whatever they damn well please and she should've known her situation.

I tend to agree. The founding forefathers saw free speech as a double-edged sword: the protection of the right of expression, and the likelihood that in exercising your right, if of ignoble or dubious intent, you'd end up hoisted on your own petard anyway.

I would go through an administrator first.

When I get irate e-mails from parents, I always go to my boss before and if I reply.

Calmer heads usually prevail.
