A while ago (step up thread) I decided to try and be a more responsible poster on this board as I had let a few posters here get to me which resulted in some very childish posts on my part that were un-called for.
I also made a few enemy's here which I take full resonsiblity for but yet it is not something I am proud of. Having said all of that I have sort of layed low the last week or so because the ND bashing was at out of control. So here are my thoughts for what they are worth. Who knows! LOL!!

1. I am so glad that OSU is ahead of ND in the polls! Maybe the ND bashing with calm down a little. OSU deserves to be ranked high as OSU (now) has both and offense AND a defense!! ND's defense was pathetic Saturaday night.

2. Many of you are probably right as ND is not a top 10 team but after the last 10 years I will take what we have.

3. NDs schedule is not what it was when it was put together and no where near OSU's schedule but still ranks ahead of schedules of (Sagarin) Texas,
USC,VT,LSU and Oregon. Yes ND has only played 4 teams with winning records but if ND had lost to Tenn., Pitt, Purdue and Stanford, they would have played 8 such teams.

4. I would love to play OSU/PSU in a bowl game and if ND does not win so be it, but it would be better (IMO) than playing Oregon or VT and not get any respect even if ND should win.

5. ND could/should be better next year with one of the best recruiting classes in the country coming in (alot of top notch DB's! THANK GOD)
and most of the team back. Rhema McKnight ND s best receiver will return after missing all but half of the Michigan game this year.

6. CW has shown (at least to me) that he is a fine coach and recruiter and I think this is just the beginning. ND may very well get beat by OSU in a bowl game this year but I hope CW gets several chance at revenge. Like him or not he is going to do a fine job at ND.

I agree with everything except point number 4. I think we both know ND could play Southeastern Rhode Island State Tech and the voters would probably still suck up to them. I'm not bashing ND, just stating a fact. I'm pretty confident in my opinion that if Notre Dame wins a bowl game against anybody in the top ten, they will be putting a statue of Charlie Weis up in South Bend, as they should with the recent past they've had, and the media will continue kissing they're feet. Other than that, not a bad post.

Hey, bud, some of us should get credit for keeping the smack talk to PMs. :p Your restraint this week was admirable. It's just barely possilble that there could have been a little button-pushing around the board Saturday... just maybe.

It would be great to see an OSU/ND matchup in January. Having watched the Pitt, USC, and Stanford games, and pieces of the others, I definitely think OSU is the better team. From my very untrained point of view, though, Weiss seems to be a very good coach, and there's certainly no lack of talent on the team. Throw in the fact that both teams would put everything they have on the line, and we'd be looking at a heck of a game.

Yes ND has only played 4 teams with winning records but if ND had lost to Tenn., Pitt, Purdue and Stanford, they would have played 8 such teams.
Not sure this is the best argument...

I don't have much of a problem with ND football program, its more of the media and its ongoing hype machine of ND. Honestly, this year ND is very overrated in my opinion, they should not be ranked in the top ten and the media has made Weiss into the next Rockne.

I could put together a bunch of numbers to prove my point but really, every ND fan knows that this year they played some very bad teams and their biggest "win" was a very close loss to USC, which I give you credit for, but where are their quality wins?

Hopefully, ND and OSU will meet in the Fiesta, because it would be great for college football.

I agree that most people's problems are with the media's take on ND, not ND itself. I have no problem with them accepting a BCS spot, if I think they deserve it or not. Should I expect them to turn the bid down? We wouldn't turn it down if we were in that position. What gets to people around the country is the straight-faced dishonesty about the situation. ND's SOS sucks. ND is not as good as at least two other teams who have or will probably qualify for a BCS. The media needs to be honest (there are a few media types who are honst, to their credit) and just state the fact that ND gets extra credit for it's tradition and it's money making capacity. I have no problem with that as long as they're honest about it.

NDC, You are generally a good poster on these boards. Your opinions differ from ours on a regular basis and that is to be expected, especially where Notre Dame is concerned.

Point #1: I wouldn't count on the bashing to simmer down. I'm not convinced that Notre Dame should be in the BCS this year. They've had a fine season. But to have a special rule for Notre Dame to get in easier than any other school is just plain asinine. You want a guaranteed "at large" berth? Get to #4 in the BCS rankings like everyone has to.

Point #2: They are not a Top 10 TEAM right now. They certainly have the potential to be so next year after CW solidifies his defense. But I'm convinced that Cincinnati St. Xavier or Cleveland Glenville could score three times on your defense.

Point #3: Its not your fault that the teams on ND's schedule are weak this year. But it doesn't change the fact that they are, in fact, pretty damn weak.

Point #4: ND + Bowl Game = Hype. No matter the opponent or if it were played on Thanksgiving Day.

Point#5: Agreed if Quinn stays and McKnight is healthy. The recruiting class will be great but if they all start, having three true freshman in the secondary will not be a plus to hang your season hopes on.

Point #6: Agreed. Weiss will do for Notre Dame what the school hoped George O'Leary was going to do. ND could be much better this time next year.

I have said before that I would actually be a minor fan of the Irish but the way the media treats them is unfair to teams like Oregon or other teams with smaller profiles that do well. I rooted for Notre Dame the last couple of years when they were sub par and the media didn't care about them but now that the media is in love with them I just can't stand ND. Btw, Lou Holtz and Mike Golic are huge Notre Dame homers and they're supposed to try to have a neutral opinion on every team including their personal favorites. Mike Golic said he believed Notre Dame would beat Ohio St. and isn't scared of them :roll2: .

NDC - as I've told you several times before, people get upset and start talking smack to you because you are constantly attempting to bring ND into every discussion on this (an OHIO STATE) board. You seem to have gotten a lot better about that, so hopefully you won't have as many problems in the future.

As far as the ND bashing goes, it will never stop, at least never on this board. Those reasons have already been stated, but for the record, it is because:

1. All the bullshit hype and ass-kissing done by the media

2. The majority of ND fans suck ass, don't know football, and do nothing but talk shit. Don't feel bad, every program has it's bad apples, but ND has more fans, and therefore more bad apples, than your average program.

3. Strength of schedule. We are so sick about hearing about the vaunted strength of schedule that ND has. Blech. For every USC and scUM on ND's schedule, there is a Navy and a Baylor. Please. As you said yourself, ND's schedule this year was WEAK, yet (see point number 1) the media doesn't seem to grasp that, and continuously harps on how tough a schedule the domers play. It makes me vomit.

4. The "Notre Dame Exception" clause in the BCS rules. Give me a frickin' break. What exactly is it about Notre Lame that makes them better than any other school in the country, even those with tougher schedules and better records?

Now, these points aren't necessarily to aim smack in your direction, just to point out the obvious, in that the majority of the posters here will never even be sympathetic to Notre Lame.

Having said all that, I will say you've been much better in recent weeks about constantly bringing up your team, and about talking smack in general, even when baited. Keep it up. :wink2:
