The reason no one likes Notre Dame is because their subway alum fans are so in love with themselves. Go to ANY scout board of any of the other major teams (not to mention theirs), and you'll find at least 10 who say no defense in college or the NFL can stop the Weis ND offensive machine, and that both PSU and OSU are scared shitless to play them. Yes, I'm not making this up...we are SCARED! I know I look behind my couch and in my closet at least once a night...hoping I don't see the dreaded Notre Dame offensive juggernaut monster!

They only have to win 9 out of 12 with this schedule:
2006 Notre Dame Football Schedule
Sept. 2 at Georgia Tech
Sept. 9 PENN STATE
Sept. 16 MICHIGAN
Sept. 23 at Michigan State
Sept. 30 PURDUE
Oct. 7 STANFORD
Oct. 21 UCLA
Oct. 28 at Navy (Baltimore, Md.)
Nov. 4 NORTH CAROLINA
Nov. 11 at Air Force
Nov. 18 ARMY
Nov. 25 at USC
In answer to lv and Jax - I don't see them as going 9 and 3 against the above schedule next year. And, should they do even better than that it would be hard to deny them as having a great year. I just don't see it happening, the starting stretch before their bye week could see them go 3-3 at best. UCLA will not be a push-over and there is always the Thanksgiving day trip to LaLa land that will push them back to 8-4. They are likely to make a bowl next year, but not a BCS primo gig.

Btw, Lou Holtz and Mike Golic are huge Notre Dame homers and they're supposed to try to have a neutral opinion on every team including their personal favorites. Mike Golic said he believed Notre Dame would beat Ohio St. and isn't scared of them :roll2: .
Before Willingham was fired, Golic also said that Notre Dame should be a 10-win team year-in-and-year-out and in title contention every year just because of their tradition-rich history. Main reason why I can't stand Mike & Mike in the Morning.

In addition it is likely that the service academies will be constant home game fixtures for the Irish.
Now much of the ND schedule is apparently fleshed out for many years ahead - just like Ohio State's, but in 2009 things start to open up again.

They announced a deal with Army last week. The Army AD was ecstatic. Go figure. Must be for lots of money.

Well if this OSU v ND BCS Showdown does happen someone already added fuel to the fire. This morning on ESPN Radio' Mike and Mike in the morning Mike Golic (A ND Grad) stated that there's no doubt in his mind that Notre Dame would kick Ohio State's butt.

Sorry Mike but I'm not sure that No Defense can keep up offensively once Troy and the boys start rolling our defense will take care of business.

I don't "hate" Notre Dame, but they are one of the "media darlings" along with Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma and USC. If it were up to the media these teams can do no wrong. I would love to see a game between the Buckeyes and Irish. It sucks that Oregon will be the odd team out if this game does happen but hey, next time win at least a share of your conference and you might be considered.
Oregon won basically the same share of their conference that we did. Because the Pac10 uses a retarded tie-breaker doesn't change the fact that they have 1 conference loss- to the conference champ. Same as we do. There are a lot of reasons to say Oregon doesn't deserve a BCS bid, but that is hardly one of them.

I hate Notre Dame because of guys like Mike Golic. That guy is a complete douchebag to Oregon fans. He's telling Oregon fans to shut up and basically spitting at them for wanting an invite or thinking they deserve an invite over Notre Dame. I can understand you arguing that your team should go ahead of another one but completely disrespecting a non-rival is plain wrong. If you want to look at common opponents then we can. Oregon got their butts whipped in the second half against USC and Notre Dame was very close to beating USC but don't forget ND had two weeks to prepare just for USC and Oregon had one. Both teams also played Stanford and Notre Dame barely escaped with a win at Stanford while Oregon completely dominated Stanford at Stanford. Both teams also played Washington with Oregon beating them at home 45-21 and Notre Dame beating them at Washington 36-17. Notre Dame also lost at home to a 5-6 Michigan St. team giving them 2 losses and Oregon just one. I know Notre Dame will go and Oregon will play in the Holliday bowl but I hate these Notre Dame fans who think Oregon shouldn't even be considered and that they're not worthy because they play in the Pac-10. If this should be posted in a different thread then you can move it.

I will say this...I think ND's side deal with the BCS is complete bullshit. It's like paying extra so your kid can have a steak lunch at school, and leaving another kid with nothing to eat at all.

EVERYONE should eat from the same lunch tray!

Here, here.

Unfortunately we'll have to put up with their bullshit again next year. They only have to win 9 out of 12 with this schedule:

The run for the commander in chief trophy.

That's actually a pretty tough start. then they finish like pussies, but its leaps and bounds harder than this years.

To be fair, they don't really have a pathetic conference/division they can win despite being a shitty team like WVU, Colorado, or FSU.

Steve - rarely do you ever post anything that is off target. And, it is generally accepted that Notre Dame has a tough schedule, tougher than many conference teams, Ohio State included. However, I think that was true much more so in the distant past than it is today. Moreover, for this season specifically it is not true that ND played as tough or tougher of a schedule than Ohio State. Not even close.

For what it is worth the relative schedule strengths for the two squads in 2005 are:

NCAA Cumulative -- Ohio State 4th, ND 63rd (!!)
Tellshow -- Ohio State 3rd, Notre Dame 49th (though projected to improve to 42nd).

Finally, ND fans of my acquaintance assure me that efforts are underway at ND to ensure that they will never again play the kinds off killer schedules they suffered through in the late 70's and 80's (playing five or six top 10 teams in a season, often away from South Bend). To help them in this endeavor to make their schedule more humane ND will likely have as many as 8 home gigs per season. In addition it is likely that the service academies will be constant home game fixtures for the Irish.
Now much of the ND schedule is apparently fleshed out for many years ahead - just like Ohio State's, but in 2009 things start to open up again.
What this may mean is that the next 3 seasons may constitute the last time ND will face a schedule tougher than is currently the case. In particular next years looks much tougher on paper as I think they take on Ga Tech and 4 Big 10 teams, including Penn State, in their first 6 games.

Whoa! We are on the same side on this one. As I said, year in and year out, but not this year. Heck, I was looking for Glenville on there.

This year lamb has been on the menu at Notre Dame and it is so very unfair that they take home all of that loot after beating up on a schedule like that. However, in all fairness to them, they have had a tougher average schedule than us or one that is at least as hard.

But just study BN27's point, and it's the same year after year. Take your hardest games up front and then finish with the 'sisters of the poor' so you can climb the ratings. Duke?

No, my brother, we are on the same side there. This year was lamb and no matter how hard they try, if they get us in a bowl, they will see who is mutton!
