Mustain & Arkansas Desperation (Merged)

Mustain has not exactly shined and, if you're Nutt, you probably are always gonna lean toward putting Dick in first given performance in the past.

Nutt has no choice but to stand firm

So you're saying that Nutt has has to 'stand form' and keep 'putting Dick in'?

After all, whatever jobs they do are not likely affecting Nutt's family.

See here's where I have a problem.

Like it or not the players are adults under the law. Mommy & daddy need to cut the apron strings.

Keep in mind that this is coming from an individual who has had to field calls from mothers regarding Marines under my command (I also vividly remember some very out of line comments from the father of a former Buckeye QB who transferred to another program because he lost out in the battle for the starting position).

If Mitch wants to discuss his issues with his coach behind closed doors, that is certainly his perogative. His parents on the other hand should have no say in the matter at this point.

I think Mustain-and his HS teammates, one of whom has already transferred to USC-were under an incredible amount of local pressure to be the saviors at Arkansas, and succumbed. Then, instead of becoming the savior, the Hawgs have two NFL caliber RBs in the backfield and ride them to glory, leaving the passers in the dust. I wonder if Nutt's extension is going to be revoked....

Working for the TV station that broke the news today (KFSM), this has been one drama-ridden reason. It's crazy seeing the outcry from fans demanding their coach and AD be canned. And it doesn't start from the Malzahn / Mustain era, it's been going on before that.

I don't blame Mustain for leaving. Granted, a player and their parents shouldn't be able to control the play calling or direction of a football program, but when you're promised one thing from the coach during recruiting, then given another, and from what I've heard, "the cold shoulder", I think it's time to move on.

There's much more junk going on at this University regarding Mustain and his treatment, and I think more of it will be brought out. I know he shouldn't have ever been considered a "savior", but when you're treated like he's been, I don't blame him for leaving. It'll be very interesting to see how this affects Nutt and Broyles. Their fan base has turned from some to few. It's rumors he's following his former HS coach to Tulsa, but that's just rumors.

All I can say is THANK GOD that this is happening at Arkansas and not tOSU. I may live here, but my heart is still in Columbus :wink2:

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who is an Ark alum and he just can't believe that the AD and head coach are so bulletproof. He gets sick with the lack of pressure from the local media especially. He claims that since Ark is the only game in town there is a lot of pressure on the media to paint a rosy picture or risk being ostrasized from press conferences, interviews etc. I can't believe this, becuase everywhere I've lived the sportswriters are usually the ones driving the bandwagon. I guess we can just be thankful its them, not us.

I think that Mustain regrets shooting his mouth off about firing Nutt prior to his recruitment decision.

But, in truth, it just comes down to one of the great truths in life. A Nutt is never gonna turn against a Dick that stands up for him during tough times. Life just ain't that way.

More changes at Arkansas following the Mustain / Malzahn departures.

David Lee, offensive assistant with responsibility for QB development for the Dallas Cowboys, joins the Hogs staff as Offensive Coordinator and QB coach.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- David Lee is well aware of what he's getting himself into.
"I know there's a firestorm going on in Arkansas," the Razorbacks' new offensive coordinator said. "I'm ready for it. I spent four years with Bill Parcells."
And with that, Arkansas began moving on from the Gus Malzahn-Mitch Mustain era. Lee was named the Razorbacks' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Wednesday. He'll return to Arkansas for a third tour of duty -- he was on the Razorbacks' football staff from 1984-88 and 2001-02.
