After my driving experiences over the holiday weekend, I've once again reached the conclusion that people become animals behind the wheel. I couldn't count the number of inconsiderate asshats who treat every other vehicle on the road an an inanimate impediment, not a carload of humans.

A few weeks ago we drove to Philly. When we were attempting to get on the Mass Pike, we were trying to get into the right lane to exit onto to Pike. The person in the car to our right was honking, yelling, and flipping us off, letting us know that we were absolutely not going to get over into that lane, even though we had turned on our turn signal well before the exit (it was mildly heavy traffic, so you have to count on someone NICE to let you in). I hope she was soooo proud of herself for getting one car ahead of us! Massholes.

I saw something the other day that was pretty disturbing. This old, southern gentleman was being helped across the street by a nice, young African-American guy. Out of nowhere some jackass came flying down the road like he didn't even see them, and came within inches of killing them both.

The old guy turned and faced the car, as if to say "What the hell are you doing?" but the other guy was so scared that he couldn't do anything but sit there with his hands in his pockets. And get this... the driver just looked back in his rear view mirror at both of them with this smug smile on his face, like his shit didn't stink.

The driver looked pretty familiar, but it all happened so fast I couldn't be sure who it was. I wish someone nearby would have taken a picture of the incident.

Those of us that ride bikes would concur. People are amazing.

BayBuck. Seriously, I never tailgate unless someone is just sitting out there picking their nose. There are these really big signs that say "Stay Right unless passing". I wish people would actually pay attention to the rules. It would make traffic move much better.
Having said that, if a car is just sitting in the passing lane, not overtaking I will flash the high beems after a while to get them to move over or I will just go by them on the right and give them the evil eye. :biggrin:

Ohio born and raised observation of Cali/Nevada drivers:

Why do West Coasters leave 20 feet between the "Stop here to trigger light" white line at an intersection and their bumper?

When did it become OK to fly three lanes over to catch an exit ? (to piggy back, it is very common in Nevada for lifted trucks to go through the dirt and grass dividers that seperate exit lanes from the highway)

Why does everyone have a Lifted Ford or Surburban?

How come when I leave 5 feet between me and the guy in front of me, someone will go out of their way to fill that gap with said lifted Ford truck?

Is it legal to hop over center cement dividers, the kinds that have rocks and palm trees planted in them?

I also am peeved at people who make a left hand turn from the inside most lane but start to wander out until they hit you in the second left turn lane. I have seen a person actually pass another person during a left hand turn.

That's fine, it is the passing lane for a reason, and I agree traffic would be less of problem if we all were considerate of our fellow drivers. But someone going 80-120 mph is probably passing someone else already is my point; let's not be whipping out pistols because not everyone on the road gets over when we come roaring up behind them.

Two things that have happened within the last year that just amaze me as to how big of assholes some people are when driving.

First one was on Hayden Run, I roll up to one of the round abouts that they put in, which can be a good thing but when people don't know how to use them can be a pain. I yeild, because there are cars driving in the lane that I will be pulling into. Asshats behind me just lays on his horn, because he feels that I should have just pulled right into the car in front of me evidentally. I flick him off to let him know he is an ass, Capt'n Asshats then follows me, coming to my left when we get to a two lane road yelling etc, follows me into a parking lot, and starts pounding on my window about he is going to kick my ass, blah blah blah, I called the police and and he took off.

Second one was about a month ago. Coming home from doing my student teaching. I'm driving on route 4 south towards Marysville. I am doing about 5 miles and hour over and have about three cars right in front of me. Dude comes flying up behind me, starts flashing his lights and honking (one lane road not sure where he wanted me to go) Finally he decides to pass me on the left (fine whatever), but he has 3 more cars to pass also. I see the cars coming the other direction so I slow down so this guy can get back over before he hits the other cars headon, instead asshats speeds up, so he can pass the other three cars also, and ends up running two cars off the road that were going north on 4 so that he could get ahead of everyone.

Depending on the time, of the asshats arrival he was probably running late getting to honda for work. It has been my experience that most everyone who works there has some kind of contest/pool and whomever leaves the latest and still gets to work on time wins. I have been passed on the berm while I was doing 75 by honda asshats. In the past though, they have really cracked down on the speeding in the area. I have seen statey's with 7-10 cars all pulled over handing out tickets like candy on halloween.

one of the other teachers at the school I was at told me he worked at Honda while he was going to school, and said they would have 1 to2 accidents a week in the parking lot alone from people racing in and out of the parking lots.
