MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

I think it's a balk. His right foot crosses the front part of the rubber.

MLB rules say back of the rubber, not the front. Bold is mine.

6.02 Pitcher Illegal Action (a) Balks If there is a runner, or runners, it is a balk when: (1) The pitcher, while touching his plate, makes any motion naturally associated with his pitch and fails to make such delivery; Rule 6.02(a)(1) Comment: If a left-handed or right-handed pitcher swings his free foot past the back edge of the pitcher’s rubber, he is required to pitch to the batter except to throw to second base on a pick-off play. (2) The pitcher, while touching his plate, feints a throw to first or third base and fails to complete the throw; (3) The pitcher, while touching his plate, fails to step directly toward a base before throwing to that base;

As usual, it looks like Harold Reynolds is just regurgitating shit he heard when he played 30+ years ago instead of taking any pains to see if it's right or wrong. I hate that fucking moron.

Trevor Bauer signs 1-year deal to play in Japan

Former Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer has signed a one-year contract with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, where he'll rejoin professional baseball for the first time in nearly two years following a long suspension and release from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 32-year-old Bauer last pitched in June 2021, when a San Diego-area woman accused him of sexually assaulting her. He was placed on administrative leave for the remainder of the season and eventually suspended for 324 games by Major League Baseball. An arbitrator in December 2022 reduced the suspension to 194 games and reinstated Bauer, and the Dodgers released the pitcher in January, eating the final $22.5 million of his three-year, $102 million contract.

Bauer will still get his full salary from the Dodgers in addition to his BayStars salary.

Good move for him
