MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Their pitching is a hot mess. Kluber is a shell of his old self, Sale is the same and he can't stay healthy, the rest of the rotation is not good either. The bullpen is pretty ugly as well.

I expected the games to be slugests. What surprised me was how little slugging the BoSox did after the 1st inning of game one.

The Pirates shut them down. The Bucs replace half of their pen every year with guys I've never heard of, and they were effective.

I'd like to believe the Pirates pitchers are that good (spoiler: they're not) so that falls on Boston's bats. They'll need to pick it up because their pitching isn't getting any better.

It seems Rich Hill's 71 mph hanging curveballs aren't fooling the ChiSox the second time through the order. Go figure.

Rich Hill will probably somehow keep managing to find a roster spot somewhere for 10 more years. Guy just seems like he will be around forever by some stroke of luck. What is this like his 18th year? Always fucking hurt yet somehow keeps popping up.

We still get 3-2 counts over and over and over. That is the main thing that makes it hard for me to sit through these games. First pitch, strike, second pitch, strike (this is easy!!), ball ball ball, sixth pitch foul, seventh pitch ooooh just outside because the pitcher refused to give in, take your base (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz).

Since it's so easy for the hitter to get a hit on an 0-2 strike, make them do that on 0-1 by shortening the strikeout to 2 strikes! :boogie::cool: Don't know if that would solve the problem, but it seems like something drastic needs to happen to save me from the 0-2 to 3-2 malaise.

Idk if the sport had this problem to this degree back when I obsessed over the Reds because it never used to bother me, but it sure does now.

3-2 counts don't bother me at all. What I couldn't stand was batters stepping out after every pitch, adjusting their gloves, slowly stepping back in only to ask for time if the pitcher held in the set position for 3 seconds. When that wasn't happening the pitcher would take a walk behind the mound, rubbing the ball, only to get back on the mound and throw it to first 5 times to hold the runner.

None of that BS happens now. At bats move at a steady pace and the stolen base in back. I'm happy with the changes.

Faster pace hasn't fixed the mundanity, tedium or predictability.

If you have Cruz on your fantasy team it looked bad. He needed help getting off the field. As a Pirates fan, I expect the worst.
