I've always wanted to see the HR derby have guys like Nick Punto in it....where 3 or 4 HRs might win the thing, instead of watching big lugs just get tired of swinging the bat.

Then in turn, have a stolen base contest for guys like David Ortiz, Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera....etc

Add a Jeff Brantley/Joe Morgan/Mitch Williams led brain game and you'd have a pretty good ASG.

Skydiver kicks shortstop in the face

ST. LOUIS -- It was a most unusual error on a baseball field.

A skydiver parachuting in before a summer league game accidentally kicked shortstop Mattingly Romanin in the face, knocking him to the ground and, as it turns out, ending his season.

The 20-year-old Romanin said Wednesday he had a concussion and was trying to take the bizarre mishap in stride.

"Obviously I was a little upset and kind of frustrated about how the whole situation developed," he said. "It was a freak accident. It happens. There's nothing really I can do. I've just got to move on and make sure I'm healthy and ready to play."

And LOL at the "it happens." No, Romanin, it doesn't. When you're out on the field for pregame, you should not have to worry about getting a boot in the teeth by a wayward skydiver.

Also, when the skydivers arrive, you should have your head on a swivel.

It doesn't, but it should.

I wish they would drop in skydivers during the game. One per team per half inning to be released at any time. The defensive parachutist (DP, if you will) can wear a glove and can attempt to field hit balls to record outs. The OP can interfere with the DP or fielders, but not with balls in play. I think this has potential.

Pujols says he'll sue; Clark, Slaten dumped by station

Former Cardinals icon Albert Pujols said late Friday that he plans to sue former Cardinal Jack Clark, as well as those connected with the St. Louis radio station on which he appears, for Clark?s on-air steroids allegations about Pujols.

Then shortly after midnight Saturday morning, the company that has put Clark and co-host Kevin Slaten on the air abruptly announced they will not be returning ? after just seven shows.

At least twice in the first week of a program that made its debut Aug. 1, Clark said that former Pujols trainer Chris Mihlfeld told him in 2000 that he ?shot him up?? with steroids. Both were working in the Los Angeles Dodgers? organization at the time. Clark also has made other steroids allegations about Pujols, attributing them to comments Mihlfeld had made to him more than a decade ago.
