My final .02 on yet another WBC national embarrassment (just using WAR as a point of reference not claiming it's the end all be all) .........

Gio Gonzalez and Dickey played.
Some other observations:
- #1 Catcher B Posey -anyone see him? Instead of a Posey/Mauer C/DH combination (8 and 5 WAR respectively) we get Lucroy and Aerncibia (3.9 & 1.3)
- #1 1B P Fielder 4.9 WAR-anyone seen him? It's hard to miss his fat ass. Instead we went into battle with #24 ranked 1B Eric fucking Hosmer (-1.1 WAR for those who pay attention to such things). Little bit of fucking difference there. I know Texiera got hurt but Hosmer is the best we could do?
Coaching
Torre and Bowa, 1975 called and it wants you to come on home. Playing small ball with an (arguably) all star lineup is the definition of stupidity. Your zeal to give away outs makes Dusty baker jealous.
I'll give somewhat of a pass on the roster selection because I don't know how many teams blocked you from taking better players. That said, if PT is an issue to keep guys fresh, why did we have 3 fucking catchers? Also, Shane Victorino is the best we could do for an OF spot? Really? I see any number of U.S. born names on the WAR list before I get down to #33. Is there a need to represent Hawaii?
Bottom line to me is that until we get as serious about winning this thing as Japan, DR and PR then we simply aren't going to. Half assed effort produces half assed results. The Derek Holland, Hosmer, Victorino approach just isn't good enough imo.
