MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Speaking of more FO WTF action...Phillies sign Delmon Young.

Dude should have to wear a football helmet when he plays LF and he is by all accounts a locker room cancer. Not to mention his particular offensive skill set (sucking) is redundant in the Philly outfield.

On the positive side, he's a warm body and cost $750K

this combined with them signing Michael Young has me thinking maybe the Phillies misunderstood all the talk about them needing to get "Young".

someone should tell them we were talking about their ages.
entire infield is north of 30 and/or haven't been healthy in a while.

That team is getting old fast and have a few albatross salaries they're going to have to confront in the coming years.

Plus the outfield is a big question mark. Revere is ok in center but Domonic Brown is probably not the answer in RF and Mayberry had kind of a disappointing 2012. Their glory years are behind them in the NL East IMO.

They are still dangerous IF healthy but I don't think the odds of staying that way are very good moving forward. Regardless, even at full strength on the IF and SP, that OF is weaker than circus lemonade. "Player X doesn't completely suck" is about the best thing you can say in regards to any individual component of that whole.

Also, their farm system is pretty weak so no immediate help on the horizon. IMO they will soon hit that magic spot at the end of a dominant run where they sell off the vets to restock the farm.

Nats are clearly the best team in the NL east right now and positioned to stay that way but if Philly can catch a St Louis like run of health luck and the OF plays like a collective Skip Schumaker then they are as dangerous as anyone.

Throw in the Braves and the NL East could be very interesting because they are all going to get to feast on Miami.

While in college, I fell out of love with baseball and more deeply in love with football. I moved to Chicago in June and this year I bought season tickets to Cubs games. No matter how bad they suck, going to baseball games can be really fun, so I'm hoping I can get back into baseball this year.

Yahoo: Ryan Braun's name listed in Biogenesis clinic records

Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun's name is in records of the Miami-area clinic alleged to have distributed performance-enhancing drugs to a rash of baseball players, and Major League Baseball will investigate the link to the former MVP who tested positive for illegal synthetic testosterone during the 2011 postseason.

Three of the Biogenesis clinic records obtained by Yahoo! Sports show Braun's name. Unlike the players named by the Miami New Times in its report that blew open the Biogenesis case, Braun's name is not listed next to any specific PEDs.

I'm curious to see how the Blue Jays fare after their acquisitions. They'll either be serious contenders, or hosting a fire sale in July.

There are a lot of interesting names on that roster right now.

Hard to imagine they all bust, or that they all click.

I question the bullpen.

If Sergio Santos can come back healthy and be effective, their bullpen starts looking a ton better at the back end at least.

I think the Blue Jays either win 98-100 games or they might end up being .500 at best. I don't think the team will completely implode though, unless their trades all end up injured.

Boston just blew up the house and the Pinstriped Fuckwads are ridiculously old. If Toronto doesn't win now, I don't know when they will.

If Longo stays healthy it's the Rays that will do them in for the AL East pennant.

WC is anyone's guess.

WC will come down to whoever doesn't win the East and Oakland.

There is always some surprise. We shall see, health always plays such a critical role.

I'd say every team in the NL West is going to get a boost from the Astros coming on the schedule so I don't know that you can just write off Texas that fast.

CWS are also a pretty solid team.

I don't trust Texas' age or their pitching staff. I don't think losing Hamilton will ultimately prove to be a good thing for them.

CWS could be good, they could be bad. The AL is going to be weird this year, I don't think the Orioles will repeat what they did, the Skanks are down, the RedSox are a AAA team and while I think the Astros will help people in the west to a certain extent, I also think the Astros won't be nearly as bad as they were last year either.

If I had to guess, I think the two Wild Cards will be Tampa and Oakland at this point in time. Ask me again in May though
