MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Jack Suwinski became the only player not named Barry Bonds to drop two bombs into McCovey Cove in the same game.

Didn't matter, though. The Pirates lost 14-4.

Suwinski gives me Dave Kingman flashbacks. He's got 30 homers in 468 career ABs, but he's struck out 168 times and has a .214 average.

I think you mean Adam Dunn and there is nothing wrong with a guy like that. High. Average and exceptional power are a rare combo. In the real world, a three true outcome guy is not the worst thing to have…..unless you have a manger that can’t process his value.

Statistically, Dunn and Kingman are practically twins. I just hope Suwinski doesn't turn out to be Rob Deer, a slightly lesser version of them.

For the record there was one major difference. Dunn had a career OBP of .364, Kingman was .302. Dunn's walk rate was about double Kingman's. (15.8% to 8.2%).

When are they going to have Bots for home plate umpires? Last weekend, I saw a pitch above the shoulders called a strike and a pitch right down Broadway called a ball....in the same at bat!

Whenever it is, it isn't soon enough.

The technology exists to get the call right every time. No need for an appeals process, no arguing no long delays to the game. The tech just tells the umpire what to call every time.

I see the hitters who have been called up from AAA this year, where the robo umps are used exclusively, and they have near perfect command of the strike zone. They know what is and isn't a strike better than the MLB umps do from day 1.
