WATCH: Umpire ejects grounds crew from the field during Yankees vs. Orioles game

Umpire Tim Timmons didn't want to see the grounds crew on the field, for whatever reason

Wednesday night's game between the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles featured an odd scene during the top of the ninth.

With the Yankees attempting a rally to overcome a 3-2 deficit, third-base umpire Tim Timmons took the unusual step of dismissing the Camden Yards grounds crew from the field. Said grounds crew had been gathered at and around the tarp, waiting for a potential storm to pass through the area. Yet Timmons was having none of it, and motioned at the group to head off the field before the game could continue.

Here's a look at the unusual turn of events:

Rather, the Yankees completed their comeback, scoring a pair of runs on a Brett Gardner single to put themselves up by a 4-3 margin. Closer Aroldis Chapman then checked in and recorded his 27th save of the season by notching a perfect ninth. For those wondering, the grounds crew did put the tarp on the infield after the game's conclusion, as documented by The Athletic's Lindsey Adler:

Royals catcher Salvador Perez passes Johnny Bench for MLB record with 46th home run

Royals catcher Salvador Perez has made history. With a home run Monday afternoon in Cleveland, Perez broke a tie with Hall of Famer Johnny Bench. This was Perez's 46th blast of the season, the most of any primary catcher in a single MLB season.

Perez is appearing Monday in his 118th game behind the plate. He's served as the designated hitter 34 times. The record here recognizes players that appeared in at least 75 percent of their games in a season as catcher. Perez now stands at the top. Here are the catchers in MLB history to hit at least 40 home runs in a season.

1. Salvador Perez: 46 (2021)
2. Johnny Bench: 45 (1970)
3. Javy Lopez: 43 (2003)
4. Todd Hundley: 41 (1996)
4. Roy Campanella: 41 (1953)
6. Mike Piazza: 40 (1999)
6. Mike Piazza: 40 (1997)
6. Johnny Bench: 40 (1972)

Just sayin': MLB sure has changed over the years, and not for the better either.

Who was your favorite baseball player on your 13th birthday?

I was always a Giant fan, it was this guy:

Blue Jays Livid After Rays OF Kevin Kiermaier Takes Card With Team's Pitching Plan

It looks like we may have another ethics discussion brewing in baseball.

With the memory of the Astros's sign-stealing scandal still very fresh in the minds of players and fans alike, the Rays and Blue Jays have themselves mired in a conflict centered on gaining the upper hand. This time, it's Tampa Bay's Gold Glove center fielder Kevin Kiermaier who's the focal point of the discussion.

During Monday's game, Kiermaier scored in the sixth inning after sliding to avoid the tag of Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk. On the tag attempt, a card fell out of Kirk's armband and landed directly in front of Kiermaier, who was still on the ground. After looking at it for a beat, he picked it up and took it into the dugout.
