MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

I really like the Field of Dreams as a 1-off. Not so much as a regular occurrence. Clearly MLB is planning on this being a thing long-term. It sure looked like they installed permanent lights there.

It would be fine one game a year, let every franchise play there once, kind of like NFL London games. I'm not going to be quite as interested next year and surely the general popularity will go down the more they do it. It will still be good for ratings, but moreso for the respective franchises involved rather than the sport in general.

If they can make the Reds disappear into the cornfield after their game, then it's the greatest sports venue in the history of sports or venues.

Brad Hand doing (second half) Brad Hand things. Can't imagine for the life of me why Toronto a) acquired him, and b) is playing this guy when the game is on the line, given that they still have a slight chance at the playoffs. Toronto is basically conceding the Wild Card to Boston and Oakland with decisions like this.

The Padres have lost 3 straight to the Marlins and D-backs, and today trail 5-0 after 1 against the D-backs. If they can't get win more now in the easier part of their remaining schedule, they're gonna have big problems holding a playoff spot in September.

Remaining schedule favors the Phillies in the Wild Card race, but I just don't think they are good enough to capitalize on the scheduling advantage. I expect Atlanta to win the East. The last NL Wild Card spot will be a close contest between Cincinnati, San Diego, the Phillies, Mets and Cardinals.

$100M MLB salary floor, funded by the highest spending teams? Sounds good in theory.

Fits with what I have been saying. Salary cap alone isn't enough. Too many teams at the bottom not even trying to be competitive, let alone win.

I'd put contraction back on the table in fantasy land even though I know they'd never do it. 100MM floor might cause it though.

If TB (for instance) can't generate enough interest/revenue to turn a profit with $100MM salary floor they may just fold it up.
