Mizzou Tigers (official thread)

Not always. If a person is arguing with me that 1 + 1 = 3 and won't let it go, I would call them dumb. That's not subjective......that really is dumb. I don't know all of the facts on Trayvon Martin/Michael Brown/Freddie Gray. I kind of remember Michael Brown was just on his way back from robbing a convenience store. I'm not in the group that uses thug as a way to say the n word without saying the n word. I didn't even know that was a thing until this shooting. To me, a thug is a person who acts like a thug. They can be white, black, whatever. Robbing a store falls into that category. So is it subjective to see a person acting a certain way, and then putting a word to it? Not always.
Yeah, I don't think we would even be discussing thug as a stand in for the N-Word, had Tupac Shakur not appropriated it back in the 90s. That said, it is still a subjective name. Michael Brown had robbed a convenience store. That makes him a criminal. That is a fact. But ask his mom, his friends, etc if he was a Thug - it is highly likely that they do not share that opinion.

Seriously people. We have a place to talk about important stuff. This is where we talk about stupid stuff. And I'm gonna get pissed if I get caught in the crossfire when making references to Indiana being last year's SEC East Champion.

It's used as a new age replacement for the n word in a lot of ways.

Thug conjures up the image of young and black- now go find some pictures of white people who you'd describe as a thug to pretend like this isn't true.
I don't view it that way at all. The n word was used to describe all black people in a derogatory way. Thug means a criminal or violent person it has no attachment to skin color. So if there is a white person who commits crime then yes they can be a thug.

OK...so criminal instead of thug. What's the difference?

Seriously, though, can one of those damn elitist pricks split this convo into the thread Mike created sometime soon. Man, you'd think they do it for free with how slow things move around here. After all, I only paid $44.95 (feel sorry for the suckers that paid $77.95 for a year).
