White: Kenny Florian may get title shot

Kenny Florian now knows what he has to do to get a shot at the UFC 145-pound title.

UFC president Dana White told Florian that, if he beats Diego Nunes in Florian's featherweight debut scheduled for June 11 in Vancouver, that he'd "probably" get a title shot.
White made the comments during a taping of ESPN's "MMA Live." Florian is an analyst on the show.

"Oh, here we go," White said when Florian asked him about a possible title shot. "This is usually what the reporters ask me, and now you're the reporter and the fighter.

"Everybody knows where you stand in the sport and obviously, if you can get in there -- yes. You make that weight Kenny and, yeah, you're probably going to get the next title shot."

I like Florian, but he wants no part of Aldo.

I'm really looking forward to the Diaz fight on the prelims. I like watching his fights/style. He's realllllll good.

I've also got GSP but I'll say 4th round submission. I'm sort of liking a 5 round split decision win by gsp too.

*edit - screw it, I'm going with GSP in a split decision.

Nick Diaz agrees to box Jeff Lacy

Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz and former IBF super-middleweight champion Jeff Lacy have agreements in place to box this fall, representatives for both fighters confirmed Friday.

According to a release issued by promoter Don Chargin, Lacy officially signed on to the bout Friday morning. Diaz's manager, Cesar Gracie, told ESPN.com that the 27-year-old mixed martial artist is "tentatively" set to fight Lacy and has signed papers to that effect.

Unless Zuffa offers UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre a fight during same time period, Diaz, who ESPN.com currently ranks as the No. 3 welterweight in MMA, will challenge Lacy.

"Nick's [MMA] contract takes precedence," Gracie said. "That's why we're not out there telling everyone what we're going to do. We're trying to work together with the UFC and not against them. And we're trying to do things the right way."

Lesnar out of UFC 131 as health battles continue

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has had a reoccurrence of diverticulitis and has been forced to withdraw from his June 11 fight against Junior dos Santos in Vancouver.

Lesnar, 33, said he is not planning to retire and is considering his treatment options. Lesnar said during a hastily arranged conference call Thursday that he spent 14 hours undergoing tests and meeting with doctors Wednesday at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Surgery is an option, but Lesnar said he is still in the middle of accumulating information.

UFC president Dana White said Shane Carwin will replace Lesnar and will face dos Santos in a No. 1 contender’s match in the main event of UFC 131. Carwin has been training to fight Jon Olav Einemo.

Just doesn't seem Lesnar cares about his condition with diverticulitis. Pretty simple, really. Don't eat nuts, anything with seeds, or popcorn. My dad has the same condition and aside from when he REALLY wants something with raspberries in it, he has no problems with the condition. If I'm Dana White, I'm looking into this, and considering letting Lesnar go. Why should Dana have to deal with this condition if Lesnar doesn't care?

He has a nutritionist. He is a world class athlete.I'm sure he has no dieting issues at this point in his life. There's no way someone as competitive as he is would throw away his career over something he is eating. He opted not to have surgery last time, and looking back, that was probably a mistake. No decision as of yet,but I think he might not have a choice this time.

I'm a big fan of him,but he is a shitty coach imo. Roy Nelson actually predicted this was going to happen awhile back. Of course that's all conspiracy hearsay, but weird that he even nailed Carwin as the replacement.

Totally random, but this is a badass kick.

One-punch knockout by a fighter named Hector Lombard over the weekend. This guy is the Bellator middleweight champ and hasn't lost in many years - may be on the radar of the UFC soon.

Georges St. Pierre to fight Nick Diaz

Georges St. Pierre will defend his UFC welterweight title against Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz on Oct. 29, according to Dana White.

The UFC president made the announcement Wednesday on his Twitter account.

"You guys wanted it! You got it," White said. "GSP vs. Diaz Oct. 29, UFC 137 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas."

The St. Pierre-Diaz bout announcement comes one day after Diaz signed a multiyear, multifight deal with Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of both UFC and Strikeforce.
When informed of White's announcement, St. Pierre's lead trainer Firas Zahabi could not contain his excitement.
